Dulles 5K/10K on the Runway

August 29, 2026
Chantilly, VA 20151 US

SKIP the Line! PICK UP EARLY

With a sold-out race, race morning will be busy. A little planning now will make your morning much easier—especially when it comes to packet pick-up, parking and traffic.

PICK UP YOUR PACKET EARLY!

We strongly encourage you to pick up your bib, T-shirt and race items before Saturday. It’s the easiest way to skip the race-day packet pick-up lines and get ready to go! You may pick up your team’s, friend’s, families, etc. packets as well.

RACE MORNING: ARRIVE EARLY & PLAN FOR TRAFFIC
Thousands of runners will be arriving in the same window, so please carpool when possible and give yourself plenty of extra time.

Free parking is available at the Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center, and the parking lot opens at 5:30 a.m. After parking, all participants must proceed through the museum and security screening before reaching the starting area.

BAG DROP: Bag drop will be available; however, with a sold-out race, we anticipate this area may be busy. To avoid crowds and potential delays, we strongly recommend leaving valuables and any unnecessary personal items at home or secured in your vehicle. If you do use bag drop, please use the United Airlines backpack provided during packet pick-up. Bags are not permitted on the runway, and you will need to show your race bib number to retrieve your bag after the race.

IMPORTANT: GPS and online mapping services may try to direct you to the Udvar-Hazy Center from Route 50. This is NOT a public entrance. You must enter from Route 28.

START TIMES
5K: 7:30 a.m.
10K: 7:40 a.m.

Don’t let traffic or a last-minute packet pick-up slow you down before you even reach the starting line. Pick up early, carpool, arrive early and come ready for an unforgettable morning at Dulles!

We’ll see you on the RUNWAY!

Event Description

This is your opportunity for the flattest, fastest course in the area! The runway will be closed off for runners to experience a unique look at the airport grounds, something you do not get to do every day! Run past planes and along the actual landing strip on this certified looped course.

Race Date: Saturday, August 29, 2026. The event will feature both a 5K starting at 7:30 a.m. and a 10K starting at 7:40 a.m. The 10k will run the entire length of the runway.

Free parking for the race at the Smithsonian's National Air and Space Museum, Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center. The Museum parking lot opens at 5:30 a.m. and will close promptly at 8:00 a.m.
Please allow time to park, pass through security,  walk through the museum, and get to the starting line. It is important to start each race on time.

All participants must be able to complete the chosen course and be off the runway by 9:00 a.m. so that it can be reopened for aircraft traffic. To allow for extra time, the final 1/2 mile will be on a connector, so provided you are off the air strip and beyond the final checkpoint by 9:00 a.m., you will have plenty of time to finish. We haven't had a runner unable to finish the course yet.

We plan to have water stations along the course; however, you are encouraged to carry your own water if needed.

Registration Fee: Sign up early! There is a limit of 2,500 runners.
5K: $40 per participant through May 31; $45 through July 31, $50 until the race sells out or the race starts.
10K: $50 per participant through May 31; $55 through July 31; $60 until the race sells out or the race starts.

All participants must register online and in advance of coming to the packet pick-up.

Strollers (no registration needed for the child in the stroller) and wheelchairs will also be permitted, as long as they can complete the course by 9 am.

Race proceeds will benefit Special Olympics Virginia, the Committee for Dulles Community Outreach, and the Washington Airports Task Force, all 501c3 nonprofit organizations closely affiliated with Dulles Airport.

Packet Pick-up: To help make race day smoother, please pick up your items (bibs, t-shirts, etc.) in advance and skip the long lines.
