About Camp Holiday Trails:

Nestled in the hills on the southern edge of Charlottesville, Camp Holiday Trails offers children with chronic health conditions what few camps can – the opportunity to enjoy the experiences of summer camp in an environment that meets their individual health needs. It is one of very few camps in the country that is able to integrate and care for so many different health conditions in one setting.

Campers between the ages of seven and seventeen attend one or two-week residential sessions, each of which can accommodate up to sixty children. While at camp, each child is provided the chance to grow and develop through activities such as horseback riding, athletics, swimming, ropes course, nature and science, and many more. The goal is to help these chronically ill children develop self-confidence, experience the outdoors, socialize with one another, and become more aware of their abilities. Through this organized camping program, Camp Holiday Trails is able to better prepare these children for the challenges they face every day in their home communities. Each year Camp Holiday Trails relies heavily on the generosity of volunteers, individual donors, health organizations, civic groups, foundations, churches, and corporations to meet their financial obligations.

Celebrating 50 Years of Summer Fun: Register Now for Camp Holiday Trails!

Nestled in the heart of central Virginia, Camp Holiday Trails stands tall as a beacon of joy and inclusivity. Since 1974, we've been offering the ultimate summer escape for children and teens with medical needs, aged 7-17, and their siblings.

At Camp Holiday Trails, inclusivity isn't just a goal—it's our guiding principle. We warmly welcome children with different medical diagnoses, providing personalized care to ensure that every camper feels safe, supported, and empowered to be themselves. With our dedicated 24-hour medical team, campers receive round-the-clock care, allowing them to fully immerse themselves in the camp experience. Many campers have multiple medical diagnoses including cancer, diabetes, sickle cell, hemophilia, juvenile arthritis, or are recipients of transplants.

What's our secret sauce? It's all about creating a space where every camper can shine. From thrilling adaptive adventures like horseback riding and conquering the ropes course to unleashing creativity in arts and crafts, there's never a dull moment at Camp Holiday Trails.

We're not just a summer camp—we're a year-round destination. School groups can retreat to our beautiful camp for team-building adventures and unforgettable experiences. Plus, with our cozy Airbnb lodges and breathtaking wedding venues, every visit supports our inspiring mission, with all proceeds going towards empowering more campers to discover their potential. We also offer Pop-Up Camps to organizations, and groups across the Mid-Atlantic - where we bring the magic of Camp to you!
