Description
The Cause: Help Run Breast Cancer Out of Town
Each year, 3,500 women and girls, hundreds of volunteers, and dozens of community sponsors come together to support breast cancer care and research. The Charlottesville Women's Four Miler has not only become a community tradition, but also the largest all-women's race in Virginia. During the past 24 years, 48,000+ runners have raised more than $3.5 million for the UVA Breast Care Program. These funds helped more than 25,000 patients get access to screenings, benefit from the latest research, and experience personalized medical care.
One of the Charlottesville Track Club's signature events, the Women's Four Miler supports UVA Cancer Center's Breast Care Program, where multidisciplinary teams are committed to the early detection, diagnosis, and treatment of breast disease. UVA offers state-of-the art screening, including tomosynthesis (3D mammography), individually tailored breast care, and second opinions.
In conjunction with the Breast Care Program, UVA's High Risk Breast and Ovarian Cancer Program works with women who are at a higher risk for developing breast and ovarian cancer. Each woman receives a tailored approach to her care based on her personal history and risk profile. She may also receive genetic testing and counseling.
Your support of the Charlottesville Women's Four Miler helps make all of this possible.
