Description
Join us for the Lake Monticello Plan B Virtual Race Challenge, and walk or run to support Lake Monticello Fire & Rescue who, despite COVID-19 outbreak, have continued to respond to the call for help in Fluvanna County. 100% of the race proceeds will be donated to LMF&R to offset the negative impact COVID-19 has had on their traditional fundraising efforts. Run, walk, pushrim, handcycle, or skip between July 3rd and 5th from your house, on a treadmill, or a trail using proper safety precautions.
Here's how it works:
Our version of a virtual race means that by registering, you're committing to. Whether you opt for 5 or 10 miles, it means a course from your home, or staying at home and completing from a treadmill- how you do it is up to you. No matter what, just make sure that those miles are achieved only with those you are self-isolating with and according to recommended precautions.
Pick a race distance (or more than one if you'd like).
You'll receive an email when the race "starts" on July 3rd
Complete your race(s) and submit your results either by text message or email (if you've opted in) or by heading to the results page here by the deadline of July 5th at 11:59 PM (Eastern Time). Results update in real-time as people submit their times. Be sure to take a selfie and post on social media with the hashtags #planBvirtualrace and #lakemonticello.
Here's what you get for signing up:
A chance to win one of three $10 gift certificates good at The Pub or Shark Tank
Motivation to stay active.
The good feeling that comes with helping those who help us!

SUBMIT RESULTS:
Runners will be able to submit their results through text or email (if opted in) or through the runsignup.com results page from July 3rd through July 5th (11:59 Eastern Time). If you have questions about submitting results, don't hesitate to reach out to us at memberservices@lmoa.org

You can complete the 5 or 10 miles at your own pace and time yourself. You will be able to upload your times, but we are not tracking for awards. Since everyone will run/walk on a different route, with varying elevation and terrain, we are not giving out awards based on the fastest times.

VIRTUAL RACE DAY FAQS
What is a virtual run?
Our version of a virtual run is an event that can be run (or walked) from any location you choose. You can run, jog, handcycle, pushrim, or walk. You can do this on the sidewalk, on a track, on a treadmill, or a trail, as long as you use recommended safety precautions. You get to run your race, at your own pace, and time it yourself.
Where should I run? What's the course?
There is no set course this year. Make your own and have fun with it! We want you to run with only those you have been self-isolating with to keep everyone healthy. Please be sure to follow the CDC guidelines and keep 6 feet away from anyone that you run around, or by, to keep as safe as possible.
Will this race be timed?
Not officially. You can complete the 5 or 10 miles at your own pace and time yourself. You will be able to upload your times, but we are not tracking for awards. Since everyone will run/walk on a different route, with varying elevation and terrain, we are not giving out awards based on the fastest times.
How do I post my results to prove I did it?
Go to the results tab at the top of the page or click this link (you will also receive an email on race morning!). It's an honor system this year. We would love for you to post your time so we can give you a virtual high-five, but since everyone will be running on different courses, we will not be giving out awards for the fastest times this year. Participation is for pride, not prize.
Can I run the 5-Miler course from the Clubhouse?
No. Do NOT come to the Ashlawn Clubhouse on the morning of July 4th. We realize that this year is different than in past years, but instead of recent events and the need to practice social distancing, we do not want people coming to the club and running the course that they have in the past. Please help us make this a successful virtual run by choosing your own, brand new 5 or 10-mile route ANYWHERE on planet earth.
Can I run with a stroller?
As long as you feel safe, running with a stroller or a jogging stroller, feel free to do so!
Can I run with my dog?
Sure! If your pup enjoys a nice long run as much as you do, feel free to bring your 4-legged friend along!
How old must someone be to sign-up?
This event is open to people of all ages. Waivers are required, parents will sign on behalf of their children.
When is the rain date?
The Lake Monticello Plan B Race: Virtual Edition is RAIN OR SHINE.
I am not from Fluvanna County; can I still participate?
This year's event is a virtual running event, so there are no geographical boundaries to participation. We encourage everyone, runners and non-runners, from around the world to join us to raise much-needed funds for The Lake Monticello Volunteer Fire & Rescue.
Is there a registration fee for this race?
Registration is free. However, we are encouraging a donation through the registration process to benefit an amazing cause.
What happened to Volunteer sign-ups?
Due to this being a virtual race, we do not need volunteers. This is the year that you can participate and run or walk in the Lake Monticello Plan B Virtual Race.
Is there a t-shirt this year?
No. Because of the quick turn-around time with the decision on a virtual race, there is no t-shirt for the Lake Monticello Plan B Virtual Race.
