About Us
Downtown Greens is a nonprofit founded in downtown Fredericksburg with a mission to foster community involvement and growth by protecting and nurturing urban greenspace through collaborative environmental stewardship and experiential education.
The garden is open sunrise to sunset, 365 days per year. Take a stroll, read a book, meditate, and smell the flowers. We rely on volunteers help to keep the 2.7 acres of public greenspace maintained.

We are preparing to begin renovation on our basement to transform it into a fully-equipped teaching kitchen and multipurpose space. The space will be used for our youth programs, adult workshops, events, and more.
One of our most rewarding and impactful activities has been our monthly community dinner hosted by our Youth Farm Program (YFP) participants, staff and volunteers, and a chef from one the many amazing local restaurants. The dinners allow our youth to interact with food from seed to table—preparing and serving dishes made with fresh fruits and vegetables they have grown themselves in the YFP garden.

Downtown Greens is under contract to purchase and conserve a 56-acre parcel of land that contains living wetlands and mature trees, as well as the last farmland in Fredericksburg. As an extension of what Downtown Greens has been doing for over 25 years, this project will protect and nurture urban greenspace, teach the community about sustainable and organic growing techniques and provide accessible open space.
