Big Brothers Big Sisters run goes VIRTUAL on May 16, 2020

New Date: May 16, 2020

Dear 2020 race participant,

I hope that this e-mail finds you well and in good health.

You have registered for our fourth annual Big Brothers Big Sisters 10K, 5K, & 1K (formerly called the Free Union Farm Footrace).  This race was to take place Saturday, April 11, 2020.  With Governor Ralph Northam’s order mandating Virginia citizens to stay home through June 10th of this year, this event could not occur as scheduled.  COVID-19 has clearly had a tremendous impact. For us, the majority of our funding in the first quarter comes from event sponsorship.  As the world is figuring out how it will operate, many businesses are hesitant to support nonprofits.  And yet, there are 150 Littles in our area that rely on us as one of the few consistent means of connection, communication and stability.

We ask that you join us by running our Big Brothers Big Sisters VIRTUAL 5K on Saturday, May 16th.  We are counting on you to provide that same tax-free donation to help us to continue support our community through our very first Virtual Race.  We ask that you give a minimum of $25, the cost of one entry fee for the race AND, as importantly; spend that Saturday morning running (or walking) with us virtually for a worthy cause here.  As you have already registered, your fee can simply roll over to this event.  It's great for Bigs and Littles, youth groups, and community members.  Your gift helps us to fulfill and continue our important mission of defending their potential.  Draw families in to connect communities together.  Our goal is to get the community involved and to expand the effort beyond Charlottesville, Virginia.  You can run with anyone anywhere.  We would love to be able to say that you are on board with us and to continually find new ways for you to build with us.

This year you also have the opportunity to get your network involved and fundraise in support of Big Brothers Big Sisters!  Awards for top fundraisers will be given!  We hope you'll join us.

Best,

Priya Kurani

Here Are Your Options:

Virtual races happen all the time, and allow you to join the fun without the crowds. You simply run the farm on your own, and report your results - we’ll send you instructions.

You understand that events are expensive, even when cancelled, and you want us to keep your registration fees to help cover our costs. We deeply appreciate your generosity and look forward to seeing you at an event soon.

We understand. We hope you can join us next time.

RACE DIRECTIONS

Thank you for registering for the fourth annual Big Brothers Big Sisters Free Union Farm Footrace! We are excited to announce that we’ve been able to keep the course the same as last year, so you can look forward to setting a course PR for yourself! We are very excited about the opportunity to hold our event at this beautiful location once again, and want to thank the Booth family and their entire team for their generosity and support.

Parking & Directions
Parking will be on the farm via the “Garden Entrance” on Fox Mountain Road. We are attaching google Map directions along with a blow up of the entrance. Plugging 2535 Fox Mountain Road, Crozet, VA into navigation will get you close to the entrance, but not quite there. Please look for signs saying “RACE” with Arrows to direct you into the correct driveway on your left.  If not, please follow the directions from Charlottesville to Wesley Chapel Road (just outside of Free Union off of Millington Rd). Follow Wesley Chapel Road past the actual chapel (on your left). Go 0.6 miles past the church. The road turns to gravel. Stay to your left as it turns into Fox Mountain Road.  The entrance will be on your left. Please follow signs to parking.

This is a solid 35 minutes from downtown Charlottesville on country roads. Please allow plenty of time.

Please note, THERE IS NO PARKING ALLOWED ALONG WESLEY CHAPEL ROAD, OR AT THE CHURCH, OR ANYWHERE NOT DESIGNATED SPECIFICALLY FOR PARKING BY THE RACE. The county police will tow any car not parked in a designated area, so please come all the way to the farm to park.

There is no parking at the site after the race is complete as the gate will be locked promptly after the race awards are over.

Course Info
As stated above, the entire 5K and most of the 10K stay on farm property. A few important things about the course:

  • Please stay on the course at all times and please respect the property. No trash, gel packs, etc.
  • Dogs, whether on or off leash, and running strollers, are strictly prohibited.
  • Part of the 10K course runs along state roads (Wesley Chapel).  The roads will not be closed. Please stay on the left shoulder at all times and be vigilant for oncoming traffic.
  • There will be one water station on the course, at approximately the 1.2 mile mark that will be passed twice by 5k participants and three times by 10k folks.

Thank you again for participating in our event, and supporting Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Central Blue Ridge. Please don’t hesitate to let us know if there are any questions.
