Description

The Shenandoah Valley Runners (SVR) is excited to open registration for our Spring 5K and 10K Training Program training program in Front Royal, targeting the Front Royal Kiwanis 5K on May 16, 2026. This will be a 10-week program beginning on Saturday, February 28, 2026. Weekly track workouts and group runs will occur in Front Royal.  You are welcome to participate in the program even if you are preparing for a different spring race.

The training program runs rain or shine with few exceptions. The program is open to any healthy adult at virtually any level of athletic ability. There is no speed requirement and all paces are welcome.  We welcome newcomers to the running community, however if you have not run before, we recommend consulting with your physician prior to beginning this training program.

You must be a member of SVR to participate in the training program. If you are not currently a member, or need to renew an expired membership, you can complete the necessary steps here: SVR Membership Information.

The training program cost is $10. This does not include registration in the Front Royal Kiwanis 5K (or any other race). You select and register for a race on your own.

The training program will include:

  • 1:1 consultation session with program coach to start the program
  • Experience-based daily training schedule
  • Track workouts every Tuesday at 6:30p.m. (beginning March 10) at the track behind Health Department in Front Royal at 465 W 15 Street Front Royal, VA 22630
  • Paced group run every Saturday morning at 8:00a.m. in Front Royal or at nearby parks.
  • Members-only group chat for on-the-go advice, photo sharing, and community support.
  • Weekly emails from the coach with training tips for injury prevention, shoe fitting and pronation testing, weather-appropriate gear advice, stride correction and agility, and nutrition and hydration management.
  • Stretching and warm-up tips during training.

Training program is limited to 25 participants.
Registration will close when program reaches participant capacity, or on Monday March 7, 2026 (one week after the program starts). Whichever comes first.

Training will be led by SVR member Jason Weber who brings 3 years of experience running and competing. Jason has completed races of various distances including 5K, 10K, half-marathon, marathon, and ultramarathon. Jason is a Level 1 coach through the Road Runners Club of America (RRCA).

Weather Policy: Safety is our number one priority. A race, training run, or other event may be canceled, delayed, suspended or postponed, or the course may be modified in the event of threatening weather conditions that could make the run unsafe for participants. Such threatening weather conditions may include: lightning, heavy rains, wind / tornadoes, extreme heat, ice / snow, or other major weather conditions. Extreme heat is defined as a heat index that meets or exceeds 105 °F at the time of the event or run. Lightning strikes within five miles of the planned course are considered threatening. It is up to the event director or run leader to determine whether the conditions are threatening and communicate any decision to alter the event or run to participants.
