WHAT DOES THIS RACE SUPPORT?
This award-winning virtual event is a fundraiser held by WSRM. All proceeds from this race will go toward creating an endowed scholarship for underrepresented undergraduate and graduate students studying Sport and Recreation Management at JMU. WSRM is more than halfway toward raising the required $50,000 to endow a scholarship. Let's reach our goal this year!
WHY?
Underrepresented students face a disproportionate number of challenges in higher education. For example, according to the United Negro College Fund, barriers to graduating from college for some Black students is evidenced by the relatively low retention rates of Black students across the nation. Among students enrolled in four-year public institutions, 45.9% of Black students complete their degrees in six years - the lowest rate compared to other races and ethnicities. Additionally, only 29% of Black students feel financially secure at non-historically Black colleges and universities.
There's no better time to take action and support racial equality, so join us in being the change.
