Earth Day 5K & School Challenge Cancellation
As a club of runners, Run NNK has made the difficult decision to cancel the 2020 Earth Day 5K & School Challenge. This decision has been made out of concern for our runners, volunteers, spectators, the community, and in conformance with the CDC and Commonwealth of Virginia State of Emergency Guidelines. No Postponement date for the race has been set, and at this point we are planning on continuing the race and challenge in 2021.
Participants have 3 options at this point: 1) Run NNK will issue a full refund for the $25 entry fee; 2) Participants can transfer their entry to the 2021 Race at no additional cost; or 3) Participants can donate their entry fee. Any donations will be added to the School Challenge prize money for 2021. Race T Shirts have not been ordered due to the uncertainty and will not be issued. We will be emailing all participants to inform them about these options.

Description
The 6th Annual Earth Day 5K on Saturday, April 18 will feature the Run NNK School Challenge. The Challenge encourages local schools to compete for cash prizes by fielding the largest numbers of registrations (students, teachers, parents, and friends) in the Earth Day 5K Race. The race starts at 8:00 a.m. in front of the Northumberland Historical Society.
Prizes: $1000 and $500 prizes will be awarded to the local high schools/middle school/elementary (combined) with the most registrations. Public and Private schools in Northumberland, Lancaster, Westmoreland, Richmond, and Essex Counties are eligible for the prizes. The following race awards will be presented following the 5K:
5K Overall Male and Female: 1st | 2nd | 3rd
(Please note: Run NNK has a non-duplication of awards policy. A runner who finishes in the Top 3 overall in the 5K run does not qualify for an an age group award.)
Age Group Awards
Top 3 Male & Female Ages: 12 & under, 13-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70 and up
School Team Awards:
School with the largest number of teachers, staff and administrators to finish the 5K -- Lunch party
RUN NNK is a tax-exempt non-profit organization. We obtain our exempt status from our parent organization, Road Runners Club of America.
Race Information: The race will start and end at the Northumberland Historical Society, 86 Back St., Heathsville, VA. The manually timed 5K will begin at 8:00 a.m., followed by a Tot Trot at 9:15
The first 100 registered runners/walkers will be guaranteed a specially designed T shirt. Post race refreshments will be provided. All Kids Run participants will receive a prize!
Course Description: The course begins near the Northumberland Historical Society, follows Back Street to and across US Route 360 onto Spring Road to the 1.55 mile turnaround and return. The course is moderately hilly. Water stop at 2 miles.
