One Client-Her Legacy
One client that Safe Harbor served was so grateful to the organization for helping her rebuild her life that she wanted to give back to the program. She came up with the idea of a walk. And the Safe Harbor team helped her bring that idea to life. Clients in the program made signs with facts and figures about human trafficking in the nation and here in Richmond that lined the route.
As we embark on the 5th annual Walk to End It, we want to honor this survivor and remind people that not only is the walk her legacy but that her purpose was greater: to instill in all survivors a desire to pay it forward, to give back to those that helped us heal.
The Problem
The Department of Justice and the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children ranks Richmond one of the Top 20 jurisdictions for sex trafficking in the United States. Greater Richmond’s geographic location and proximity to major highways make it a hub for trafficking activity.
Individuals rescued from these violent criminals need immediate crisis intervention, short- and long-term shelter care, and other trauma-based services. More than anything else - victims need consistent support and case management services to help repair their lives so that they come to understand there is much more to life than the horror to which they have been subjected.
Comprehensive Recovery Program
Safe Harbor's Comprehensive Recovery Program for Human Trafficking Survivors provides shelter, consistent support and case management services to help these survivors repair and rebuild their lives. Without this dedicated recovery program, survivors would have to be transported to programs outside of Central Virginia or go unserved.
We offer emergency and transitional shelters, therapeutic and addiction counseling, and case management services. Our services are available to HT survivors regardless of race, gender, age, national origin, income, immigration status, gender identity or expression, faith, sexual orientation, disability, ethnicity, and geographic location. Services are provided in English and Spanish and are offered at no charge to the survivor.

Join others and walk to end human trafficking.
Locally, you can join us at Dorey Park to walk a path along the nature trails. Then stay after and join our 5 year celebration. We'll have raffle prizes, a food truck, live music and will be right next to the playground to make it a fun time for the whole family!
Or if you rather you can walk where and when you want — on a sidewalk, track or trail. Walk individually or in groups with friends.
