Description

The Liberty University Triathlon is the first of it's kind on the East Coast.  This International Distance event is open to Collegiate Teams ONLY and is the culminating event of the Mid-Atlantic Collegiate Triathlon Series.  Staged out of beautiful Smith Mountain Lake State Park, this event starts with a a crisp, clean swim off a sandy beach start and is followed by a challenging 40K rolling bike course and then a rolling 10K run all inside the park.

Swim Course: The swim course leads off with an in-water start from a white sand beach for a rectangular shaped swim course. Expect the water to be cool (mid 60's) and as always, crystal clear. A sandy beach finish ends with a medium length uphill run to the transition area.  The yellow triangle buoys are your turn buoys and must be kept to the athletes right as you go through the swim course, the orange buoys are just for sighting purposes.

Bike Course: The 40K bike course winds along rural country side on well paved roads. It is a nice mix of hills, rollers, and flats. If you have been putting in some miles on the bike you will excel on this course.  This bike course is challenging, but is a ton of fun.  Please note that while riding inside the park to stay on your side of the orange cones.

Run Course: This out and back course is all inside the park and is a nice mix of hilly and flat sections. There is plentiful shade and well stocked aid stations every mile serving ice cold water and HEED.
