Description

Join us for Lynchburg's only St. Patrick's Day run ~ The St. Paddy's Day 5K!
Park View Community Mission is pleased to present the St. Paddy's Day 5K. Celebrate the spirit of the holiday at this St. Patrick's Day themed 5K event. Costumes are encouraged. Runners and walkers are welcome. Proceeds from this event benefit the Food for Thought (Weekend Mealbag Program) of Park View Community Mission. Participants are invited to enjoy live music and adult beverages at the Water Dog Restaurant (weather permitting). Live music starts at noon.

PARK VIEW COMMUNITY MISSION'S FOOD FOR THOUGHT PROGRAM:
Food for Thought is a supplemental feeding program that provides food-insecure students with nutritious meals as they leave school on Friday afternoons, to sustain themselves over the weekend. Hungry children have weaker immune systems, are sick more often, have difficulty paying attention in class, and are less successful academically. In addition, hunger limits social development and is linked to behavioral problems related to stress and fatigue.

5K: The 5k run & walk is open to ages 8 and up and will be professionally timed by Riverside Runners. The race will start at 11:00 a.m., Riverfront Park (next to Water Dog Restaurant, 1016 Jefferson Street, Lynchburg, VA  24504 (downtown Lynchburg). The out & back course is flat and fast, utilizing Riverfront Park and the Blackwater Creek Bikeway.

Pet Policy: For safety reasons, dogs and other pets are not permitted on the course.

COURSE

The St. Paddy's Day 5K course starts and finishes in front of the Water Dog restaurant, Riverfront Park, Downtown Lynchburg.

Participants proceed away from Water Dog on the gravel sidewalk, running the perimeter of Riverfront Park, following the bikeway past the DPO Grille and Amazement Square.

Participants then enter the Blackwater Creek Bikeway via a sliding gate just past the Skate Park under the 5th Street Bridge.  Once on the bikeway, participants follow the paved path 1 mile, passing through the famous train tunnel and turning around approximately 350 feet after leaving the tunnel. The course is out & back. Participants will retrace their steps back to where the race started.
