The biggest community event in Manassas Park turns into a virtual 5k and 1-mile run!
Hundreds of families each year have joined Manassas Park City Schools for its annual Cougar Literacy Run and we want to ensure that despite state-wide closures, our tradition of promoting literacy and wellness for our students continues!
From May 2 - May 10, participants will have the opportunity to choose a day, time, and course for their 5k or 1 mile run. This Spirit Week will encourage students to participate in a reading challenge that includes photos of our awesome readers.
Proceeds from the event will continue to go toward purchasing print and digital resources to enhance literacy and integrate mathematics, science, and social studies learning on our campuses.
That's okay! If you are walking at a comfortable pace, 1 mile would be about 20 minutes long and a 5k, which is 3.1 miles, would then take you about 1 hour.
Yes, but please be mindful of the Center for Disease Control (CDC)'s recommendations for the prevention of the spread of COVID-19. (https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/prepare/prevention.html) Remember to stay 6 feet apart should you come into contact with any other pedestrians during your virtual race.
No, in order to keep things simple for participants we are not requiring or keeping track of times for either race.
No, that is up to you! Since we are not keeping track of times, if you would like to break up the 5k or 1 mile race, you can!
Any photos that you would like to be added to the race website and division page can be sent to email@example.com. Beginning April 20th, we will be tweeting out a reader of the day. By emailing us your photo, that reader could be YOU! You can also post your photos on social media and use the event hashtag - #MPCSrun.
Registration fees will go towards the purchase of print and digital resources to enhance literacy and integrate mathematics, science, and social studies learning on our campuses.
Unfortunately, we are not able to do t-shirts for participants this year, as the cost for shipping each t-shirt is not feasible. After the race, we will be sending commemorative race decals to all registered 5k and 1 mile participants.
