The 1st bi-annual Run Wild 5k coming this Fall 2020!
Welcome to the Run Wild 5k event at the Metro Richmond Zoo. This year we are celebrating the world's fastest, endangered species - the African cheetah!
Experience the Zoo from a whole new perspective! Come out for some exercise and lots of FUN, on Saturday, September 19th or 26th! Grab your racing shoes and get ready to sprint around the perimeter of your favorite local zoo - the Metro Richmond Zoo (including their Cheetah Conservation Center!) Your morning will consist of a 3.1 mile run or walk. This all-terrain course takes you around the perimeter of the Zoo as you dash by rhinos, zebras, cheetahs and more! After you cross the finish line, each runner can visit the Zoo for FREE! Any spectators that come with you will receive a 10% discount off their zoo admission tickets for race day.
SUPPORT A GREAT CAUSE
"The cheetah is Africa’s most endangered cat. In 1900, the cheetah population was around 100,000 individuals. However, due to habitat loss, human conflict, and illegal animal trade, the cheetah’s current wild population is in drastic decline. It is estimated there are around 7,000 cheetahs left in the wild. As of today, the cheetah inhabits only 23% of its historic African range. Cheetahs in the wild have an extremely high mortality rate. 90% of cubs die within the first three months of life. 50% of these deaths are attributed to predation and the other 40% fall victim to a lack of genetic diversity." - Metro Richmond Zoo
100% of Run Wild's net proceeds from this race will benefit the African cheetah through these 3 reputable organizations. Click on their links to see how they are making important contributions to mitigate this species' extinction.

COVID-19: We are constantly reviewing all of the Governor's safety guidelines and the CDC's to ensure that we operate in a safe manner amidst this pandemic. Virginia is currently in the Governor's reopening plan phase 3 and our COVID-19 safety measures that we have implemented will also apply to phase 2 in the event that we phase back by race day. If we move back to phase 1 by race day, this race will proceed as a virtual race with no race refunds and no free admission to the zoo. (we will mail out bibs and shirts to racers to run on their own and submit their own race times) The Metro Richmond Zoo will not be able to operate as a walk-in park if we are reversed back to phase 1. We are optimistic this will not happen.
