40 Years A Prisoner Group Run and Movie Screening

Come out and support Mike Africa, Jr. on the release of his documentary "40 Years a Prisoner." There will be a group run from Manchester on Sunday, July 28th at 8am and then the movie screening at the Main Library - Richmond Public Library (101 E. Franklin St, Richmond, VA 23219) from 2-4pm. "40 Years a Prisoner" is a documentary that was executive produced by Common, John Legend, QuestLove, and Black Thought. It was produced by Tommy Oliver, who also produced “The Perfect Find” starring Gabrielle Union on Netflix.

"Join us for the next leg of the 13 Run Challenge in honor of Rhonda Africa, to be held in Richmond, VA. Rhonda was a pillar of strength and love in our community. She was the mother of Birdie, the 13-year-old boy who survived the devastating fire.

During a difficult time for me when my mother was in prison, Rhonda stepped in at times with a motherly embrace, offering warmth and care. She was one of the dedicated MOVE women who relocated to Richmond for a time, where she helped take care of us children, providing a safe haven away from the confrontational atmosphere in Philadelphia.

One of my most cherished photos is of Rhonda holding me, her eyes filled with love, and my response to her affection shown through my smiles and laughter. This image beautifully encapsulates the nurturing and compassionate nature Rhonda exuded. She will forever be missed by the people that loved her. Let’s come together to honor Rhonda’s memory and celebrate her legacy on July 28. Your participation in this run will help keep her spirit alive and continue the work she was so passionate about."
