Plan to join the Virginia Capital Trail Foundation, the Richmond Road Runners Club, and our presenting sponsor Rocketts Landing for the 10-mile or 5K race, run or walk on the "Cap Trail." A 52-mile dedicated multi-use trail connecting Richmond and Williamsburg along the beautiful and historic Route 5 corridor, our Virginia Capital Trail is a gem of a resource for RVA runners, walkers, and cyclists. In 2019 (the races' first year), there were 500 finishers of the two races.
All profits from the races benefit the programs of the Virginia Capital Trail Foundation to enhance, promote, and advocate for the continued development of the Trail. Check out VCTF's "What We Do" site for more information.
Registration will open in Summer 2020. Until then, all race details including date and location are tentative and subject to change.
Course details are tentative and subject to change. The 10 Miler course starts and finishes on Nicholson Street near the Stone Brewing Tap Room. Runners first head north on the Cap Trail to a turnaround under the I-95 bridges. The course then heads south passing Stone Brewing and Rockets Landing and continues on the Cap Trail as it parallels Route 5 (around mile 3.5). Runners will cross the highway at the intersection of Route 5 and the Osborne Turnpike and then cross Route 5 again around mile 5.5. Both highway crossings will have a police presence. The turnaround is just after mile 6.0. Runners reverse the route to the finish at Stone Brewing. The course has 260 feet of elevation gain. The only major climb starts after mile 3 with about 140 feet of uphill over the next mile. Runners get to enjoy the downhill on the return trip starting at about mile 8.
Water stops will be available at the following approximate locations: stop #1 at the 0.75 and 1.5 mile points; stop #2 at the 3.5 and 8.5 mile points; and stop #3 at the 5.0 and 7.0 mile points. Sports drinks, water and snacks will be provided after the races. A portable toilet will be available at stop #2 or stop #3.
Course details are tentative and subject to change. The 5K course starts and finishes on Nicholson Street near the Stone Brewing Tap Room. Runners first head north on the Cap Trail to a turnaround under the I-95 bridges at about 1.25 miles. The course then heads south passing Stone Brewing to the 5K turnaround at Rockets Landing. A water stop will be available for runners at the 0.75 and 1.5 mile points on the course. Sports drinks, water and snacks will be provided after the races.
