The Legacy We Carry

Legacy Ruck and Roll honors the life and service of Captain Andrew "Drew" Ross, a U.S. Army Green Beret who was killed in action in Afghanistan in November 2018.

Drew was our son, brother, husband, grandson, nephew, friend, and teammate. He lived a life defined by character, humility, and relentless dedication to others. As a soldier and leader, he inspired those around him to pursue excellence and serve something greater than themselves.

The Drew Ross Memorial Foundation was created to carry that legacy forward. Through service, leadership development, and support for Gold Star families and veterans, the foundation continues the work Drew began.

Legacy Ruck and Roll is one way our community gathers each year to honor that legacy and ensure the stories of the Post-9/11 generation are never forgotten.

Event Experience

Participants move through a series of reflection and education stations that follow the timeline of the Global War on Terror.

At each station, guest speakers share short messages that invite participants to pause and reflect on the mission of the Global War on Terrorism Memorial Foundation:

Honor. Heal. Empower. Unite.

The purpose of this event is not to test physical endurance.

It is to experience the journey together and reflect on the service, sacrifice, and legacy of those who served.

Whether you walk or carry a ruck, we encourage you to move with purpose and honor their legacy.

Two Missions. One Purpose.

Waves and Start Times

Last year more than 250 participants joined us for Legacy Ruck and Roll, and we expect even greater participation this year.

To keep the course safe and moving smoothly:

• Participants will be assigned a start wave at check in
• Each wave has a limited number of participants

Our goal is for participants to finish around the same time so everyone can take part in the closing ceremony together.

Route Placement

When registering, you may indicate a preferred route.

Final placement is determined at check in based on:

• Total registration numbers
• Course capacity
• Safety and spacing

Participants who are able to safely complete the full 3.5 mile ruck are encouraged to do so.

If participation numbers require adjustment, some registrants may be assigned to the 2 mile route to maintain safety, spacing, and a shared finish experience.

Groups

If you would like to participate with a group, your entire group must check in together.

Groups that check in separately may be placed in different waves or routes.

2026 Legacy Ruck and Roll Shirt

Each participant registred by May 25 receives a Legacy Ruck and Roll event t-shirt.

Adult and youth sizes are available.
