Description
Have you seen the high flying slackliners every year at Dominion Energy Riverrock and thought…”I could do that!”? Now’s your chance to prove it! Enter our open slackline highline competition and defy gravity walking above the canal. You’ll have to stand on the line from a seated position and then you’ll be timed on just how quickly you can get up and walk across. The fastest few make it to the next round, and will compete for all the glory in the finals where it comes down to speed!
Schedule
Saturday, May 19:
- 11:00am – 12:00pm –slackline open event qualifier – over canal
- 4:30pm – 5:30pm: slackline open competition (finals)
Competition Format
Participants will compete on a 170 foot long line that will be set-up over the canal. Competition will consists of a qualifying round and competition rounds.
Qualifying Round:
- Each competitor will hang from the leash in the performance section of the line, which will be approximately 140’ of the line indicated by colored tape, and then mount the line, walk, stand in exposure and do a drop knee. Competition Rounds:
- Two heats per round, semi-final and final, for a total of 4 attempts.
- Time Limit: 1 minute. Time does not stop if the competitor falls.
- After each round, competitors will be seeded so the highest scoring competitors will go last.
Rules & Judging
All competitors will go through a safety check and gear inspection prior to getting onto the line.
Climbing harnesses are required and provided if you do not have your own.
Judging will consist of a panel of 3 judges. Scores will be given out of 100 points utilizing the following criteria:
- Line Use and Variety (30 points) – Using different sections of the line and performing different tricks, walks, and movements will score high.
- Control (20 points) - Shaking, flailing, struggling with transitions will result in loss of points. A high score in control would show all intentional movements, smooth transitions, and flow.
- Difficulty (50 points) - Judges will be looking at each movement, trick, and combination performed while on the line and assigning a score.
