Description

Join the Richmond Road Runners Club's winter marathon and half marathon training teams! We look forward to having you train with Richmond's favorite winter training program.

Registration for the 2022-2023 Winter Marathon Training Teams closes Saturday, January 7, 2023.

We offer training for:

WMTT begins on Saturday, December 3, 2022. Both training teams will start at 7:30 AM.

All training runs will start from the new Lucky Foot location in Carytown (3002 W Cary Street)! Parking is aplenty that early on a Saturday and the brunch options are ridiculous.

Skratch will be the hydration/nutrition for the team.

Runners must be 16 years of age or older to sign up for WMTT.

Who should consider signing up for WMTT?

WMTT offers curated routes for those who want to move up to the half marathon or marathon distance for the first time OR who have already completed one or more half or full marathons.

While we welcome runners of varied paces, WMTT might not be the best match for those training to achieve a Boston or other qualifying time.

A runner should consider WMTT if they:

  • are already doing at least 15 miles per week of running or run/walk at 14 minutes/mile or faster pace
  • have done a few 5Ks and/or 10Ks
  • can get in runs at least 3 days per week
  • wants to train for and finish their first half or full marathon
  • wants the support of a training group for weekly long runs.

WMTT offers a recommended training plan and weekly supported long runs geared to each distance. Annie Tobey does a great job researching the routes and finding interesting bits of history we may be running around. The water stops are every 3-4 miles and will be featuring Skratch hydration and some nutrition. Our weather each week is always running weather!

COVID-19 Precautions & Procedures

The following policies and procedures are based on current recommendations for COVID-19 safety protocols and are subject to change at any time.

  • Individuals who are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 do not need to wear a mask or other face-covering outdoors at RRRC races, training programs, or other events.
  • RRRC strongly encourages anyone who is not fully vaccinated to wear a mask when they are not actively running/walking during an RRRC race or training program, especially when they cannot maintain 6 feet distance from other individuals (e.g., check-in, starting corral, finish area).
  • If you are fully vaccinated but still want to take precautions when around others, RRRC fully supports you in wearing your face covering at any RRRC event.

Participants at increased risk for COVID-19. Per CDC guidelines the following groups are considered to be at a higher risk for contracting COVID-19. If any of these apply to you, we ask that you take the increased risk into consideration before registering or signing up to volunteer:

These precautions are subject to change at any time and we appreciate your flexibility as we put on races during the time of COVID-19.

Water Stop (SAG) Volunteers Needed

Need to take a break from a WMTT long run? Want to support a friend or family member in WMTT? Want to help out RRRC and WMTT?

WMTT needs volunteers to support the hydration/fueling stops along the training runs starting December 10 and on all following Saturdays. The time commitment is between 2 and 4 hours depending on the day's mileage.

RRRC Grand Prix participants will receive one (1) contract race/event volunteer point for each time that he/she serves as a WMTT water stop volunteer.
