The Virginia's Blue Ridge Triple Crown challenge is back with an amazing medal and more options! We're excited to invite runners from all over the country to Virginia's Blue Ridge for the area's three biggest half marathons and 10K/8K races. There's also a Triple Crown option for the shorter races, dubbed the "Triple Crown Sprint Series."
These series show who the most dedicated runners are by rewarding those that finish the three races with some serious bling!
To earn the Virginia's Blue Ridge Triple Crown medal, participants must register for all three of these races:
Participants who register for all three races will of course get serious bragging rights, but will also be awarded with an awesome 4" Triple Crown medal! Triple Crown participants must complete all three half marathon or greater distances.
To earn the Triple Crown Sprint Series medal, participants must register for all three of these races:
Participants who register for all three races will of course get serious bragging rights, but will also be awarded with an awesome 3" Triple Crown Sprint Series medal!
Bonus: Mix & Match!
If you choose to run one or more half marathon (or greater distance) and one or more of the shorter distance races for a total of 3 races (one in each of the Blue Ridge, Salem, and Star City races), you will qualify for the Triple Crown Sprint Series!
Rules and Regulations:
Participants must register for each race individually to be eligible for either medal. Use the same email address to register for all three races. Registering for one race does not automatically register you for the other races.
Medals will be awarded on a first registered, first awarded basis, so register early! You will only be considered awarded a medal once you register for all 3 races. Due to supply chain issues, we must order medals EXTRA early, so Triple Crown medals are limited to 250 participants in each category... register early to guarantee your medal!
As we return to a more normal race atmosphere, we want to see you race in person as much as possible! For 2022, we require that 2 of your 3 races be in person.
We prefer that you pick up your medal in person at the Star City Half Marathon or after 11-21-22 at Fleet Feet Roanoke, but if you need your medal mailed to you, contact us and we'll mail it for a small fee.
Virginia's Blue Ridge is known for its picturesque views of the mountains and we have brought that image to life in the 2022 Triple Crown medals. The medal features a stationary front illustration of runners weaving their way over mountains with rhododendron in the foreground. The sky is on a rotating disk behind the mountain scene, and rotates between sunrise, daytime, and nighttime skies. The images used for the three sky photos were taken by some amazing runner-photographers that are a part of the Roanoke Valley running community. Tim Lewis runs the 7-mile round trip up McAfee's Knob several times a week to watch the sunrise, which he documents with his iPhone camera in stunning photos. The sunrise depicted in the medal was taken in March 2021. Tim has made over 400 trips up to McAfee's Knob! John Park is known for his mouth-watering food photography and leads the pub run from the Village Grill every Taco Tuesday. John's picture of blue skies with playful clouds reminds locals of how lucky we are to live in such a beautiful place. Check out John's other work on Instagram... but don't forget the napkins- you'll be drooling! Kemper Fant is an esteemed Roanoke wedding and event photographer who loves running and the outdoors almost as much as life itself. Kemp's photo of the night sky was shot during the peak of the Perseid Meteor shower in August 2020. Look closely and you can see a meteor! When you decide to say "I do" in the Roanoke area, be sure to give Kemper a call!
