Description

The 15k course (9.3 miles) is a mixture of fire roads and single track trails. The trails are technical and rolling- and very fun! Exposed roots, bridges, ravines and fast sections can be found on the route in beautiful York River State Park. We will use the Backbone, Laurel Glen and Marl Ravine trails. No shirt size guaranteed after Sept. 17th! Start time is 9am and packets can be picked up race morning starting at 7:30am.

Aid StationsThere will be 4 Aid Stations on the course, here are the details (please thank these wonderful volunteers when you go by) Please plan accordingly based on the weather. I strongly recommend bringing your electrolyte drink of choice on your person :Aid Station #1, approx. Mile 2 mark: Water, pre packaged snacks, gels (end of Backbone) This is a chance to grab a gel you might want a couple miles into Marl RavineMarl Ravine Aid Station, approx. Mile 5: Water, snacks, gels (on Marl Ravine)Aid Station #2, approx. mile 6.5: Water only (after Exit to Marl Ravine on Backbone)Please note that there is a 3 mile distance between Aid Station #1 and The Marl Ravine Aid Station- please plan accordingly. The trail between is single track and might take longer than you think. If you normally drink water during a 5k event, you will definitely need to bring your own hydration on your person.Trail DescriptionThe course will be heavily marked with arrows and pink confidence streamers. There are many intersecting trails along the course, if you are confused just make sure you are following the pink streamers and you will be all good! Keep in mind, some of the trails are technical, with roots and sharp turns, so practicing on this type of trail will be helpful. This course is a slightly extended version of the Crazy 8 miler course that is normally held in September. This race replaces that race in 2024. Hikers are encouraged to register and there will be a generous 4 hour time limit to complete the course. Hiking poles can be used. No pacers on the course. Dogs are permitted on a leash, but trails are quite narrow, single file. Headphones are discouraged due to the tighness of the trails and the possibility of encountering a mountain biker. Please keep in mind, no deferrals or refunds after April 15th. If the race date changes due to dangerous weather a derferral option will be given, but this race is rain or shine.
