The Spikesburg Story 2, 4, 6, 8, 10 mile run and walk (all proceeds to support WJCC SHIP Cross Country Clubs)

Dear Runners, Walkers for The Spikesburg Story 2-10 mile run for Saturday, December 30th! 

We will meet at the Jamestown High School track for the start of each of these easy, fun runs! Let's GO!!!!

Here is our plan for tomorrow!

8:30 am (8-10 mile run)

For those who want to run 8-10 miles the group run will start a few minutes after 8:30 am.  This will mainly be collegiate and high school runners. We start as a group on the track and do an easy run on Green Spring Trails and on the bike paths adjacent to Green Spring Trails. 

9:15 am (2-4 mile run)

For those who want to walk or run 2-4 miles, this group will start at the track a few minutes after 9:15 am and go on to Green Spring Trail.  I will have the trail marked with arrows just for the 1.8-mile loop that will head back to the track.  Younger runners should run with a parent or as a group or with some high school runners doing a short run. 

9:45 am - 10:45 am  Socialize, catch up with other runners, and have hot cider and cookies at the track. Everybody is welcome to stay and catch up with each other and have some cookies and cider at the track!  

Thank you for the overwhelming support! We have reached $1900 and our only 100 dollars short of our fundraising goal.  This fundraiser and GWDRC will donate a total of $4000 to WJCC SHIP to fund the WJCC SPRING Cross Country Clubs and all 4 WJCC Middle Schools and two races will be hosted at Green Spring Trail!

A few other notes: 2 porta potties - 1 at Green Spring Trail Entrance 1 in the parking lot.  Please bring your own water bottle! 

Come join in the fun on Saturday, December 30th! The run will start at 9:30 am at Jamestown High School.

This is a short or fun long run or walk on the Green Spring Trail.  It is to support the WJCC SHIP MIDDLE SCHOOL CROSS COUNTRY CLUBS.  It will be self-timed and you pick about much you want to run! 

The Spikesburg Story 2-mile, 4, 6, 8, and 10-mile or walk fun long run is for all WJCC cross country/distance runners, younger siblings, family members, or friends!

Refreshments at the end (Donuts, hot cider, cookies, fruit)

The Greater Williamsburg Distance Running Club is hosting at The Spikesburg Story 2,4,6,8,10 run and walk on Greensprings Trail with the goal of raising over $2000 dollars to support a new WJCC pilot program called the WJCC Middle School Cross Country Club at each of the middle schools (Berkeley, Hornsby, James Blair, and Toano) from February to April. 

The proceeds from this run will help pilot a Spring cross country program with the goal of a fully funded cross country program each year which will run in the Spring at each middle school as part of their athletic program.

The pilot program is a collaborative effort between WJCC athletics, SHIP (School Health Initiative Program) and GWDRC (Greater Williamsburg Distance Running Club) at this point and will include:

• Daily training after school
• Stipends for a Head Coach and Assistant Coach
• T-shirts for each participant
• A middle school championship race with medals to the top 15 runners at the Greensprings Trail
   

The goal of the pilot program is to have a fully supported cross-country team for middle schoolers in 7th and 8th grade at each of the four middle school teams in WJCC for School Year 2024-25.
