Description
This race, whose scenic course runs past the Occoquan River at the Belmont Bay development in Woodbridge, Va., takes its theme from the famous horse race that occurs every June. The 5K race will begin and end at the Belmont Bay Marina and will follow paths on the former Ospreys Golf Course. There will also be a free one-mile walk that begins and ends at the Marina parking lot. There are special horse-themed awards for Win (1st), Place (2nd) and Show (3rd) in the respective age groups: 12 and younger, 13-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, and 60+.
Much like the winning horse that receives a blanket of white flowers, the overall male and female winners in the 5K receive a bouquet of white carnations in addition to a medal.
Other chances to win: a medal goes to the participant with the best horse name on his or her running bib and to the woman with the best bonnet.
The race will start promptly at 7:30 a.m on June 2, 2018. Race-day registration and packet pickup will be available from 6:30 to 7:15 a.m. at the race start, at the Belmont Bay Marina Parking Lot, 570 Harbor Side St, Woodbridge, VA 22191. Parking is available near the start. Note: T-Shirts are available only to runners who sign up by May 23. Like us on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/belmontbayrace?fref=ts
