This is definitely one of our racers' favorite races. There are no huge hills and the scenery is beautiful. Beginning and ending at picturesque Shelburne Beach, you will run along dirt, gravel and paved roads featuring scenic views of Vermont countryside and rural farmland. Run past Charlotte Beach situated on beautiful Lake Champlain just before entering the Holmes Creek Covered Bridge for the first time. The course continues on quiet, rolling hills before arriving at the turnaround. The half marathon runs through the covered bridge twice. The 5K and 10K turn around before reaching the bridge (although it's not that far beyond the 10K turnaround, so if you want to run through it, it's not going to add that much to your finish time for 10K runners).
This race will be limited to 3-1/2 hours regardless of distance. If you are out on the course after the time limit has passed, you will be running at your own risk because police officers and other staff/volunteers may not be available on the course.
Race bibs and t-shirts will be available at Fleet Feet, 77 Pearl Street, Essex Junction, Vermont on Friday, September 8th - noon to 6 pm for those who would like to pick up their packet early. You are welcome to pick up a friend's race packet as long as they've already signed the waiver. Racers will receive a 15% in-store discount when picking up their race packets. Those who pick up their packets on Friday do not need to check in on race day, but they should arrive no later than 7:40 am to be sure to hear pre-race announcements. Note: If you are entering the address into your mapping app, be sure to use Essex Junction, VT; NOT Essex, VT.
Race day check in will open at 7:00 am Saturday, September 9th for those who have not already picked up their packets.
Parking will be available on both sides of Bostwick Road, and possibly in some drier fields nearby. Please follow race staff and police directions. Once parked, please walk down to Shelburne Beach. Please avoid the timing mats prior to your start in order to receive accurate results. The start and finish will both be at Shelburne Beach.
Find the course map here for all three divisions.
There will be water stations at 3 locations along the course. They will be located at:
Plain water and Nuun will be available in cups at the water stations. Because of COVID, volunteers will be filling cups and placing them on a table. They will not be handing out the water. For your protection, and that of our volunteers, we recommend that you travel with your own water; however, water will be available to any who want it.
In addition to the portable toilets located at the start/finish, there will be a portable toilet at Charlotte Beach and at the half marathon turnaround.
