Description

Beginning and ending at Shelburne Field House, the half marathon is a loop course in picturesque Shelburne, Vermont.  You’ll be running on a combination of dirt and back roads including a portion on the Meach Cove property, running past Shelburne Farms, and a stretch of Harbor Road with beautiful views of Lake Champlain and the Adirondacks.  The 5K and 10K courses are both out-and-back courses that run along Harbor Road and back. The 5K is relatively flat, whereas the 10K has a couple of hills.

Start Times

8:00 AM - Start of the Half Marathon
9:00 AM - Start of the 5K & 10K

Time Limits

This race will be limited to 3-1/2 hours. The race will end at 11:30 AM regardless of distance. If you are out on the course after the time limit has passed, you will be running at your own risk because police officers and other staff/volunteers may not be available on the course. If you expect to need more time, please email gail@racevermont.com

Refund Policy

Should this race get cancelled due to extreme weather or by order of the governor or other government official, you will have the option to either defer your registration to the following year's Shelburne 5K/10K & Half Marathon or transfer to another Racevermont.com race of equal or lesser value. We do not offer refunds for unattended races regardless of who cancels the race, and transfers/deferrals will only be offered in the event that this race is cancelled.

Pre-Race & Race Day Check In

Race bibs and t-shirts will be available at Fleet Feet, 77 Pearl Street, Essex Junction, Vermont on Friday, May 2nd from noon to 6 pm for those who would like to pick up their packet early. You are welcome to pick up a friend's race packet as long as they've already signed the waiver. Racers will receive a 15% in-store discount when picking up their race packets. Those who pick up their packets on Friday do not need to check in on race day, but they should arrive 20 minutes prior to race start to be sure to hear pre-race announcements. Note: If you are entering the address into your mapping app for PRE-RACE pickup, be sure to use Essex Junction, VT; NOT Essex, VT.

Race-day check in will be held on Saturday, May 3rd at Shelburne Field House from 7:00 - 7:50 am for half marathon runners and 8:00 - 8:45 am for 5K and 10K runners.

General Race Rules

It is every racer’s responsibility to familiarize themselves with our Racer Rules. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach to us at info@racevermont.com.

  • Parking may be offsite for an event. We recommend you bring a backpack to carry your personal belongings.   Racevermont.com is not responsible for any lost or stolen items.
  • Please be on time and arrive no later than 10 minutes before the close of registration/check-in.
  • If you decide to use a music device or cell phone while running, please keep your volume low enough that you can hear traffic coming your way and our volunteers and/or timing team should they need to get your attention.
  • Racevermont.com no longer allows baby joggers. We apologize for the inconvenience, but given that this race is run on roads that will not be closed to traffic, we do not want to jeopardize the safety of our runners, their children, or drivers. We appreciate your understanding.
  • Racers must be courteous to other racers, volunteers, race officials, spectators at ALL times. Unsportsmanlike behavior will result in disqualification.
  • You will be running against traffic where instructed.
  • Do not run more than 2 abreast. Running down the middle of the road (or the middle of either lane) is strictly forbidden as the roads continue to be open to traffic.
  • All athletes must clearly display their bib #’s on the front of their body (not on the leg) throughout the race. Do not crumple your bib as this could cause damage to your timing chip which may result in the timing system missing you when you cross the start or finish line.
  • Race numbers MUST BE VISIBLE AT ALL TIMES, BUT ESPECIALLY WHEN APPROACHING THE FINISH LINE.
  • NO BANDITS ALLOWED!

Water/Hydration Stations

There will be water stations at 3 locations along the course.

They will be located at:

On Depot Road off Harbor Road (mile 2.6 and 5 of the half marathon)
At the 10K turnaround (at mile 3.1)
At the intersection of the Shelburne Rec Path and Harbor Road (at approximately mile 10.6 of the half marathon)

Plain water and UnTapped Mapleaid Hydration will be available in cups at the water stations. Volunteers will be filling cups and placing them on a table. They will not be handing out the water. For your protection, and that of our volunteers, we recommend that you travel with your own water; however, water and electrolyte will be available to anyone who wants it.

In addition to the start/finish, portable toilets will be located at the Depot Road water station and just before the 10K turnaround.

Parking

Parking is on a first come first served basis at Shelburne Field House. Overflow parking is available at the Shelburne Train Station and the Shelburne Community School which are both located on Harbor Road not too far from the Field House. Please be extremely cautious and respectful of runners on the road as well as members of the Shelburne Athletic Club who will be coming and going.
