The American Cancer Society achieves its mission to create a world without cancer in many ways.  From research to improving access to care, to providing information, to impacting public policy, the American Cancer Society attacks from all angles.

• In 2017 alone, 755 grants were provided to 180 research institutions and universities.
• Over $4.6 billion has been invested in research, and grant funding support to 47 individuals who went on to win the Nobel Prize
• More than 340,000 rides annually to treatment and other cancer-related appointments
• In 2017 the Hope Lodge provided nearly 452,000 nights of free lodging 
• Patient Navigators help guide more than 40,000 newly diagnosed cancer patients to overcome barriers to care
• Through the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network's efforts, more then 2.7 million people in the US will be covered by new local smoke-free law

The American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN) is the advocacy arm of the American Cancer Society.  ACS CAN is a volunteer organization that works to help to ensure that legislative dollars are supporting the fight against cancer.  This includes funding for cancer research and advancements in treatment, and supporting policy that increases access to healthcare, and supports tobacco control.
