10K Course
The 10K course takes place on a mixture of different running surfaces.
Start - Mile 2.1: Hard packed trail around the lake
Mile 2.1 - Mile 2.5: Combination of soft sand & hard packed gravel
Mile 2.5 - Mile 3: Paved running trail
Mile 3 - Mile 3.75: Without question - the most scenic and interesting part of the course. This section is also the most challenging as the running surface is a mixture of hard-packed dirt covered with pine needles and some sections of soft sand. This section takes runners down along the Cape Fear River marsh, and has some surprising elevation changes.
Note: Be alert - a couple of hundred yards after leaving the marsh area along the river, runners will encounter a stretch of about 150 yards, where there will be a number of tree roots laying have-buried across the trail. We will do our best to mark these with orange spray chalk.
Mile 3.75 - Mile 4.75: Pavement (Old River Rd.)
Mile 4.75 - Mile 5.45: Combination of soft sand, pine needles & hard packed gravel
Mile 5.45 - Finish: Hard packed trail around the lake
