Run Course Hydration/Nutrition Station - 21 (Alyeska Tram - Top of Mountain)

You must be 12-99 years old to volunteer for this task.

June 29, 2019

Details

Please go to the tram operations (ticket) office. It's located just inside the doors around the back of the resort on the side by the gift shop. Where they sell tram tickets. We will leave a handful of tickets there with the names of the volunteers that are needing to head to the top of the mountain to offer support at the water stop. So claim your ticket there and take the tram to the top of the mountain. Once you exit walk outside, to the side, and look up the main road. You should see a water stop setup there. That's where you are working. Bring warm clothes and maybe even an umbrella, although we will have a tent up there. You responsibility includes making sure athletes have what they need as they come by and refilling anything that needs refilling. You must also remind them this is the last water stop before the finish, so stock up! Also be aware that there will be a wedding taking place on the mountain and anyone cheering needs to keep quiet. It's a quiet zone up there this year. This water stop is essential.

Details

This shift takes place near waterfront park, just north at the old boat dock that's destroyed. You can park at the campground or on a side road if you like. Your onsite contact will be Tony or Chelsea. Please come to the pavilion at Waterfront park to find one of them and checkin. You will be responsible for helping to put up the swim exit buoy and help swimmers up the exit. If any of you have wetsuit bottoms and water shoes or neoprene booties and would like to get in the water to help athletes out that's appreciated but not mandatory. You can stay dry doing this job. Dress warm, mornings can be cold. If you do plan on getting in the water a bit and have hiking poles bring them as it's rocky and they will help you stay sturdy.

Swim Course - Lifeguard - $60 Stipend

You must be 15-99 years old to volunteer for this task.

June 29, 2019

Details

Please meet at Miller's Landing (you can park down there but please be quiet for campers) and meet on the side deck of the main building. If you have bright red clothing please wear it. Bring any lifeguard gear you have. We have rescue tubes we will supply but the more equipment the better. We are positioning life guards on the rescue boats to aid in medical service as needed. If you have a wetsuit incase you need to get in the water for a rescue you are encouraged to bring it. The goal is for kayakers to rescue (if possible) and bring the athlete to the boat where you can administer aid as needed. All rescues that need to be offloaded will be brought to Miller's Landing and NOT the swim exit unless it makes more sense to bring them somewhere else. I will have an updated medical plan of action that morning if that changes and convey it to you. Please just warm.

CONCERNING PAY - We have your info and will cut checks within 2 weeks after the event. If things are going well at the event and there's some down time we will attempt to cut checks onsite but PLEASE do not rely on this. We are very grateful for your help and will get you paid one way or another. If you have any doubts please email the volunteer coordinator Kerry Quade at kq@kerryquade.com after the event to make absolutely sure we get you squared away on payment.

Swim Course - Kayak + Kayaker

You must be 18-99 years old to volunteer for this task.

June 29, 2019

Details

Please drive yourselves to Miller's Landing to unload. Something we did not put in the job description is that Miller's will give you a short quiz on basic kayaks safety and being able to roll yourself back over if you get flipped. If you are unable to roll your kayak over if it gets flipped (while being inside it) you will likely not be allowed to volunteer for the kayak portion of the event. If you're all trained up and know what you're doing out there, even in rougher waters, than thank you and welcome!

Your duties will include aiding swimmers by giving them a front of the kayak to rest on (but never aid in forward movement) and also transport via dragging them to a rescue boat if needed. Your primary goal is to look for those in distress, monitor forward progress, and keep swimmers between the shore and your kayak without letting them get too far out into the bay.

More detail and training will be given when you arrive. Please show up about 10min early for your shift to be sure you're in place by the time your shift starts.

We do have water and snacks for volunteers. If they are not handed directly to you along with a shirt, please ask.
