On race course, direct the runners and walkers to ensure they go the right way. In the process, you can cheer them on as they travel past your location. All course marshals will be given safety vests and some will be provided with handheld flags. Most course marshals will be done with their position between 8:45 and 9:45 am; some will be needed until as late at 10:15 am. (Depends on your location).

*This is great for groups that want to volunteer and serve together!

Course Water Station on 5K "Water Stop #1"

Pass out water on the course water station located at Starbucks on Main Street. Park at the Inklings parking lot on Main Street.

Kids 10 and up are welcome, however, must be accompanied by an adult volunteer in the ratio of 2 kids for every adult.

Volunteers for this role will be asked to report directly to the Water Station. You will receive an email in advance with a map for your location.

Course Water Station on 10K "Water Stop #2"

Pass out water on the course water station located near Valley Ave in Bernal Community Park.

Kids 10 and up are welcome, however, must be accompanied by an adult volunteer in the ratio of 2 kids for every adult.

Volunteers for this role will be asked to report directly to the Water Station. You will receive an email in advance with a map for your location.

Finish Line Medals Lead

Help manage the Finish Line Medals volunteers and oversee flow and replenishment of proper medals for distribution (regular medals for 2 Mile, 5K and 10K races, Kids medals for Kids Challenge participants).

The Kids Challenge has hundreds of kids ages 10 and Under participating in age-based heats in a short race route. In this position you will assist with corralling the children as well as directing them along their run, which is all within the fairgrounds and eyesight of the Kids Challenge Start/Finish line.

*Great for those that enjoy working with kids and have leadership skills. Must be comfortable guiding and instructing children.

After the race, help with clean up. Primarily includes breakdown of tents and tables, and loading items into trucks and cars. Remove and roll banners from portable fencing; break down fencing; pack up leftover medals, t-shirts, and other items. Please bring sunscreen.

Volunteer Opportunities before Race Weekend

Distribute race posters and postcards to downtown businesses (mid-late March)

At least 8 more volunteers needed.

Details

Represent the PPIE Run for Education and help create awareness for the event by visiting Pleasanton businesses and asking owners/managers if they would be willing to support the event by displaying a race poster and/or postcards.

*This is something fun to do as pairs or with a group of friends!

You will be emailed in mid-late March with details of date for posters pick up and business locations to visit. Please notify mindy.louie@ppie.org if you'd like to be paired up with another volunteer after signing up for this task.

Neighborhood Letter Distribution

You must be 16 or older to volunteer for this task.

At least 8 more volunteers needed.

Details

Neighborhood letters advising residents of the race route and any potential closed roads will need to be distributed to front porches (under rugs or taped to front doors) prior to the event.

The tentative timeframe for the neighborhood letter distribution will be mid-April. You will be contacted to pick up the letters and they will need to be posted to your assigned neighborhood(s) by April 18th at the latest

Those under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. It's a good task to work in pairs. Painters tape will be provided with the letters. If you have signed up to work this task and want to be paired with a friend or two, please reach out to mindy.louie@ppie.org to let her know.

Pre Race Truck Loaders

We will need some strong folks to help us move and lift cases of water, t-shirts, medals etc into our truck for Race Day.
