Registration/Athlete Check-In

Details

These volunteers need to be professional, friendly, efficient, responsible. At registration/check-in, volunteers will need to check IDs, ensure forms are completed, collect fees, hand out numbers/pins/caps, etc., answer a variety of questions accurately, and body mark the athletes.

Course Marshals

Details

Course marshals are the ones who A) direct the athletes (ensuring they don't make a wrong turn, run through an unsafe intersection, think they are lost, etc.) and B) are cheerleaders keeping athlete's motivation up - sometimes it gets lonely, or tiring, out there! We try to station police officers at busy intersections so that they can direct the vehicular traffic while you direct the athletes. A bus will transport you to your spot from the Y and pick you up and bring you back when the last athlete has passed.

Meet at the Woodruff Family YMCA Parking Lot - you will be shuttled to and from your spot on the course.

First Aid/Medical Tent

Anyone with a first-aid background can be helpful at this location, and hopefully you won't be too busy. We will have a "Medical Director" on staff who will supervise.

Transition Area

Details

Volunteers are needed to keep the transition area "secure" and to assist athletes and race staff with other tasks. The first shift will ensure that only registered athletes enter the transition area and that they are able to find a spot for their bike, that their bike has bar-end plugs, etc. During the race, volunteers will ensure that non-racers do not enter the transition area, and that all athletes enter and exit the transition area in the right direction. The post-race shift will ensure that athlete numbers and bike numbers match so that nobody goes home with a bike this isn't theirs ;)

Water Station

Set up water at Finish Line for athletes, ensure all athletes turn in their timing chips, give out lots of high five, set up and refill food and drinks at Hospitality Tent.

Post-Race Breakdown

Help breakdown and load rented materials, YMCA materials, retrieve and inventory signage, remove tape from roads, etc. to make sure everything looks as good as or better than we found it!
