Details

Duties include setting up check in tables, greeting participants with smiles and answering questions/providing race information. Check in walkers and had our race bags. Walkers should have their Walk Registration email confirmation and waiver stapled to an envelope. Volunteers collect envelope, place in Portfolio Binder. For walkers who did not pre‐register, check‐in at the “Register Today” table. Walkers complete a registration envelope. Seal the envelope and place in Portfolio Binder. Position requires some light lifting up to 30 lbs.

Ask Me Team "Trouble Desk"

Details

Who? What? Where? When? Why? How? — These are just a few beginning questions our runners have. Arming runners with the right answers and directing them to the proper locations is what the Ask Me Team does best. Make the decision on how to handle those who say that they have sent in their registration but it has not been received. List any changes in participant information due to typos during data entry. Duties also include reviewing information provided by staff including finish line map, course map and a general knowledge of the area.

Operations Team

You must be 18 or older to volunteer for this task.

Details

Duties will be to make sure all debris and trash are cleaned up as soon as the Sweep Bike notifies that the last runner has passed the first mile marker. Volunteer will also assist in breaking down the nearest stations and make sure all mile markers are collected. Ability to endure prolonged periods of walking and standing, lifting heavy objects, bending and getting dirty are required.

Cheer Stations

You must be 18 or older to volunteer for this task.

Details

WE GOT SPIRIT YES WE DO — WE GOT SPIRIT HOW 'BOUT YOU! You don't have to wear a mini skirt or bright colored hair bow to cheer (though we encourage costumes!)! Be a key player in keeping the excitement and momentum going on course. Paint your faces, wear silly clothes — wear your team colors, make banners and posters with silly sayings. Duties include acting crazy, screaming, cheering, laughing — anything to bring out a smile on our runners faces! Standing for long periods of time is required — jumping with excitement is encouraged.

Race Crew Captains

You must be 18 or older to volunteer for this task.

Details

If you are a take-charge individual and love being part a project from start to finish, this is the role for you! Duties include working closely with staff, communicating to your assigned group, ensuring all information is dispersed in a timely manner, ensuring all members of your group show up at their assigned time/location. Strong attention to detail, problem solving and customer service are required.

Corral Stations

You must be 18 or older to volunteer for this task.

Details

Volunteer must help runners prepare to start by assisting them to the right coral with their expected pace. Duties include light set up of the start line and assisting runners to their proper place. The start line corral system allows for a smooth race start for participants of varying levels.

CHARLIE TEAM TASKS

Water Stations

You must be 18 or older to volunteer for this task.

At least 25 more volunteers needed.

Details

Duties include, filling water cups, handing water to runners, and picking up trash, filling and stacking cups with water and Gatorade, restocking cups throughout the course of the morning. As runners pass by, shout what you are holding (water or Gatorade) and hand to runners as they pass. As you hold out cups to runners, hold cup at the bottom so runner can easily grasp cup from you. Continue to pick up cups that runners have discarded on course to maintain safe and clear course for runners. Volunteer must be able to walk and stand for a 2 hour shift. Someone may have to lift 40 lb. water jugs. Volunteer may also get wet.

Medical Stations

You must be 18 or older to volunteer for this task.

Details

Provide emergency medical support if needed. Communicates through HAM radio operators if EMS services are needed. MUST BE CERTIFIED IN CPR AND FIRST AID. Medical can leave when the sweep bike comes by to tell you that last runner has come through.

Course Marshals

You must be 18 or older to volunteer for this task.

Details

Directing runners and keeping them safe along the route are key. Duties include keeping runners and walkers on course using voice and hand signals, a proper understanding of the course, being able to stop pedestrian and/or traffic while runners cross. Volunteer must have loud clear voice, outgoing personality, and ability to walk and stand for a 2 hour shift is required. Course Marshals are positioned throughout the course at intersections that are blocked for traffic and are responsible for keeping cars off the course and maintaining a safe environment for runners. Marshals can leave when the sweep bike comes by to tell you that last runner has come through.

DELTA TEAM TASKS

Floaters

You must be 18 or older to volunteer for this task.

At least 15 more volunteers needed.

Details

If you read through the positions and find that you can't make your mind up — no worries! "Floater" is the job for you! Duties will include being flexible and adaptable to any role that may need additional assistance. Requirements — Flexibility and a can do attitude!

Split Timers

You must be 18 or older to volunteer for this task.

At least 20 more volunteers needed.

Details

Duties include, calling out times to runners as they reach mile marks, assisting professional race timing team at the finish line. Volunteer must have a loud clear voice. No timing experience necessary.

Awards Table

You must be 18 or older to volunteer for this task.

Details

Duties include setting up awards at the finish line area, unwrapping medals and organizing on tables. Reward the runners by giving them their hard earned finisher’s medal to marathon runners as they cross the finish line. Make notes of awards not claimed, then label and re‐pack unclaimed awards.

ECHO TEAM TASKS

Start & Finish Line Workers

You must be 18 or older to volunteer for this task.

At least 20 more volunteers needed.

Details

Duties are to move runners/walkers to the start line, guide them through the gate so there isn’t a backup of runners waiting to cross the finish, directing runners to the post-race area where they can wait for loved ones, and get their Finishers picture taken. Volunteer must have loud voice, outgoing personality, and ability to stand for a long period of time.

Lead Bike/Sweep Bike

You must be 18 or older to volunteer for this task.

At least 2 more volunteers needed.

Details

Duties of LEAD BIKE include, leading half marathon runners through course and checks in with race operations through radios at every exchange point to give status of lead runner. Will have radios for communication. Duties of SWEEP BIKE include, riding behind last runner, tells water station and other volunteers when last runner has passed, checks in with race operations through radios at every exchange point to give status of last runner, and picks up any leftover mile markers along course and deposit at nearest Water Station for pick‐up by Operations Team.

Parking Detail

You must be 18 or older to volunteer for this task.

Details

Duties include directing walkers arriving in vehicles to parking, and to buses at finish area in order to return to their vehicles. Volunteer must provide general information to runners and spectators, location of bathrooms, food, water, medical, etc. Parking volunteers can leave when the sweep bike comes by to tell you that last runner has come through.

FOXTROT TEAM TASKS

Set-up/Tear-down Crew

You must be 18 or older to volunteer for this task.

At least 30 more volunteers needed.

Details

Duties include helping set up and tear down the start/finish line area. Duties include putting up and taking down signs, moving stalls, cleaning trash from the surrounding area. Set‐up 2 sets of mile markers on course. One for every full mile on the left side, one for half mile on right side. Standing, bending, lifting, and getting dirty are all required.

HAM Radio Operators

You must be 18 or older to volunteer for this task.

Details

Provide event communication. HAM Radio operators are stationed at the start, water stations, exchanges and finish line. Once they arrive at location, report into HAM Command that water station is set‐up and staffed by volunteers and Medical. If supplies run low, communicate back to HAM control. HAM can leave when the sweep bike comes by to tell you that last runner has come through.
HAZARDOUS CONDITION/CANCELLATION/ALTERATION PLAN
Flags will be flown at remote water stations and exchanges indicating race day conditions. When you arrive at site, all 3 flags will be clipped to flag pole. Remove yellow and red flag and put in safe place. Green Flag indicates the marathon is on and there are no known hazards; Yellow Flag indicates to proceed with caution (in the event of moderate weather conditions such as high heat and humidity); and Red Flag indicates the marathon has been stopped and all runners should proceed with caution to the nearest exchange point or seek immediate shelter due to severe weather conditions or other emergency. Flag changes will be communicated by the EMS Command to HAM who will change the flags at Half-Marathon water stations and exchanges if necessary. At end of race, clip all three flags back on pole.
