Open Water Swim Course - Water Safety High Priority

Details

Volunteers for this position will be stationed in watercraft along the swim path and will give directions and support to swimmers, and assistance to lifeguards as needed. An athlete may stop and hold onto your kayak/paddle board to rest as well. Position requires a hat and waterproof watch (not a phone). If possible, please bring your own kayak/paddle or paddle board & life vest. We have some available if you don't have one. Volunteer orientation and all other supplies will be provided on site by Backyard Lifeguards - BYLG prior to event start.

Transition monitor & athlete race number marking Medium Priority

Details

Assist in transition area at entrance & exits. Check athletes as they enter and exit transition to ensure they have their race bracelet on, they know where to rack their bikes and they have their number marked on their upper arms and their race age on their left calf. As athletes leave transition after the race make sure that they stay clear of those that are still actively racing and if they are trying to take their bike out of transition ensure that the number on their bike matches the number on their wristband. Only athletes allowed in transition, they must be wearing a wristband, if they lost their wristband send them to the MSE tent for a replacement.

Bike Mount/Dismount Line High Priority

Details

You will be positioned right outside the transition area. Must be able to communicate clear and loud instructions to athletes as they leave and return from transition. Announce clearly to all athletes where they are able to mount and dismount their bikes. Check to make sure all athletes have a helmet on, if they do not tell them to go back and get it on.

This position is great for kids paired with an adult. The volunteer's main responsibility is to ensure water and/or Gatorade is supplied for athletes at the aid station. Volunteers will need to fill cups and hand them out to the athletes. Also, please ensure cups are picked up off ground during the race. There will be a trashcan provided.
