Saturday, May 11: Course Monitors / Water Stops

You must be 16 or older to volunteer for this task.

9:00am - 12:00pm

Course monitors will probably be in place for 30 to 80 minutes depending on location. Dress appropriately. Be prepared with a snack or beverage, sunscreen, etc. And, ALL course monitors will need a charged cell phone to call in case of emergencies.

Monitors will:
• Help keep runners on the right path and direction. Runners may not be familiar with this course and are relying on monitors to keep them going in correct direction.
• Help eliminate unwanted dog interaction as needed.
• Encourage runners along the way.
• Cheer runners on and provide positive feedback to encourage runners to continue.
• Be on the lookout for struggling runners. Ask folks how they are doing. Are they okay? Do you see them stumbling or in pain? In case of an emergency, dial 911 and ensure someone stays with the person. Indicate the course section you are located (i.e. ½ mile, 1 mile, etc.)

Saturday, May 11: Event Parking Attendants

Parking leaders must help direct parking to maximize space usage. Also need to have some dog experience to help intervene and interact with participants to reduce and minimize unwanted dog interactions. Friendly and welcoming folks to thank people for coming and joining in the day’s festivities!

Parking leaders will:
• Direct traffic and manage parking area.
• Ensure autos are secure.
• Welcome attendees and direct to registration area.
• Thank individuals for coming

Saturday, May 11: Dog Area

Experienced individuals to help provide oversite throughout the event especially in vendor and food areas to reduce unwanted interaction of dogs and to encourage positive interaction between the attendees and dog participants.

Saturday, May 11: Food Service

Review inventory of all food items available for race.
• Set out food and display food an attractive way.
• Keep food area cleaned up and freshened up. No half eaten food on the table, etc.
• Ensure there are ample trash containers nearby for waste.
• Ensure water is available and pre-filled cups available.
• Coffee or warm drinks may be available if weather is cooler.
• Replenish trash bags as time allows to keep trash containers from overfilling and bursting.
• Other volunteers may help at end of race with water for runners near finish line.

Water Stop 2 – Finish Line – Will hand out water after race and congratulate all runners for finishing their run!

• Offer people water as they finish.
• Be careful when handing water to an athlete. Some may be doubled over or light headed. Look for athletes who appear out of it, light headed or seem unusually fatigued.
• Some people often collapse at the finish line.
• Athletes should try to keep walking, if possible, not sit down so that they bring their heart rate down slowly. Walk with them and look into their eyes to confirm they are okay. If not, follow instructions for 911 as listed above.

Saturday, May 11: Volunteers Needed!

Details

We will need lots of help for this event. From helping with registration to cheering on the runners and walkers as they finish. Volunteer start time will be 8am and we will be done around noon. Saturday, May 11: Set Up

You must be 14 or older to volunteer for this task.

Details

For this task, you will be helping set up for the race. This includes setting up tents, the registration area, food area, etc.
Please plan to arrive by 8am to help set up!

Dogapalooza Volunteers
