Course Marshal High Priority

At least 3 more volunteers needed.

Where participants cross intersections, you may need to stop bystanders and/or traffic from interrupting the race. Dress WARMLY (winter coat, hat, gloves) and be prepared to stand for long periods of time.

Location

Course Marshals receive route location and supplies the morning of the race. Arrive at 6:30 a.m. on race day morning.

Water Stop High Priority

No volunteer spots remaining.

This volunteer task is full.

Details

Hand water to runners and walkers as they pass the only water stop on the route! Yes, even in November, participants need to stay hydrated! After the last participants pass, clean up any waste left behind from the road into trash bags. Dress WARMLY (winter coat, hat, gloves) and be prepared to stand for long periods of time.

Location

Finisher Zone High Priority

Minimum met, 3 volunteer spots remaining.

Details

After crossing the finish line, a steady stream of walkers and runners will head over to YOU at the Finisher Zone tables! This position is a great view of the whole event, from start to finish! You’ll be ready to greet participants and offer bottled water, a Finisher Food Bag, and a Finisher Medal. Early morning prep for this position includes assembling and arranging tables, setting out boxes of food, carrying cases of bottled water, and unwrapping medals. As the event progresses, you are a friendly face for all participants while you restock items, break down boxes, and collect trash. Dress WARMLY (winter coat, hat, gloves) and be prepared to stand for long periods of time.

Start / Finish Sign Holders High Priority

At least 4 more volunteers needed.

Details

If you enjoy good music, crowds of all ages, and cheering people on, then this is your position! Walking among participants at the start/finish areas, you will hold “picket” signs and help verbally direct participant flow before and after the race. This position is literally in the middle of the action and offers a great view of the Valparaiso Turkey Trot from start to finish! Your signs and verbal directions help keep participants safe and moving. Before the race begins, hold “pace” signs at the start line or “stroller/no dogs” signs among walkers toward the back. After the race has started, direct finishing participants to the “Finisher Zone” for water, food, and medals. Be prepared to hold signs, yell directions, check in with runners/walkers that might need assistance, or help over at the Finisher Zone if needed. Dress WARMLY (winter coat, hat, gloves) and be prepared to stand for long periods of time.

Location

Arrive at 6:30 a.m. on race day morning.

Campbell Street Opener and Closer High Priority

At least 2 more volunteers needed.

Details

Are you attentive and quick on your feet? Then this position is for you! Once the race begins, two locations on Campbell Street need attention: one location needs to be “closed” with a string of flags and another location needs to be “opened” by removing a string of flags. Both of these locations help keep our participants safe before, during and after the race. You will be assigned one location or the other. Be prepared to lift pylons threaded with a long string of flags, quickly set up across the full width of Campbell Street, and possibly direct bystanders and/or traffic away from the area.
