2026 KU Vets Day 5K Volunteer Registration

Course Marshals High Priority

Details

Directing runners/walkers and keeping them safe along the route are key. Cheering on participants and having fun aren't requirements, but they sure appreciate it!

Duties include understanding the course route and stopping pedestrian and/or vehicle traffic while participants cross your intersection.

Location

Please arrive no later than 8:15 a.m. to the Jayhawk Welcome Center, check in to receive your specific location, and then head to your designated spot. We will provide you with a map.

Your mission will be complete when the last walker passes your area (they will be wearing a road safety vest). After that person passes, you may leave for the day.

There is no requirement to return to the stadium lot at the end of your shift, however, you are welcome to come enjoy post-race refreshments if you'd like.

Details

You will help make sure participants know where to park.

You'll also be the first people participants will see in the morning, so energy and positivity are welcome!

Location

Meet at the Jayhawk Welcome Center (JWC) no later than 7 a.m., check in, then proceed to your assigned location. Once the race has started and all 5K participants have passed your area (the last participant will be wearing an orange vest), you may leave for the day or walk back to JWC to enjoy post-race refreshments if you'd like.

Details

You will verify participants’ identities and give them their race bibs and t-shirts. This will be a fast-paced job, as large numbers of participants will show up at the last minute.

You may also sign up to volunteer for set-up crew and/or a post-race activity (i.e. recovery tent, timing chip clipper, second parking shift) in addition to this one, regardless of start/end times since you will already be on site.

Location

Packet pick up begins promptly at 7:30 a.m., so please arrive at the Jayhawk Welcome Center by 7:15 a.m.

Set-up crew High Priority

Details

Help us set up the tents and tables for the event; also help set up signs/barricades as needed. *Must be able to lift at least 10 pounds for this role.

You may also sign up for other volunteer opportunities in addition to this one, regardless of their start time, as many are also part of set-up.

Please arrive by 6:45 a.m. at the Jayhawk Welcome Center.

Finish line support High Priority

Help set up/hand out medals to 5K participants and direct them to post-race refreshments. May also help with other finish-line related support.

You may also volunteer for set-up crew and/or packet pick up in addition to this one, regardless of start/end times since you will already be on site.
