Safety Squad

You must be 18 or older to volunteer for this task.

At least 3 more volunteers needed.

Details

We are in need of experienced open water paddlers (kayaks, SUPs, canoes and surf skis welcome!) to help out with the Kids Swim for Grand Traverse Bay on Saturday, August 10, 2018.

Safety Squad paddlers may help monitor the field of swimmers and individual support kayakers, assist with swimmer counts along the course and create additional visibility on the course. Safety Squad members must be willing, able, and trained to perform an open water rescue if needed. Certification required.

To join in, you must have

Your own kayak, stand up paddleboard, canoe or surf ski
A U.S. Coast Guard approved personal flotation device (PFD) for yourself
An extra PFD
Whistle (provided)
A means to bail water (if kayaking)
A leash (if paddleboarding)
There will a mandatory safety briefing on the beach at Greilickville Harbor Park at 5:00 p.m. Friday, August 10 to allow paddlers to be out on the course before the swimmers start.

ALL VOLUNTEER PADDLERS MUST REGISTER (there is no cost) so we have an accurate participant count and your emergency contact information.

Volunteers are invited to enjoy the after-party immediately following the Swim at Volleyball Beach.
