Details

Help be part of the team that distributes ice luminaries through out Lake of the Isles in preparation for the 2024 Luminary Loppet. We need volunteers to assist in moving the ice luminaries throughout the lake with the assistance of snowmobiles, their drivers, and hauling tubs. This task will take place on the ice so dress accordingly and warmly.

Location

North end of Lake of the Isles on the west cove, near the Canoe Launch. Google "Walter Mondale Canoe Launch" or "Peavy Fountain". West Lake of the Isles Parkway between the Kenwood Pkwy and Penn Ave intersections.

Luminary Prep: Ice Henge Assistance - Form Removal High Priority

Details

Help make the feature Ice Henge. We need a crew of volunteers to help remove the wooden molds from Ice Henge. Volunteers will be working in a team to strip large wood molds from the slabs of ice during this shift. This task will involve working with water on ice so dress accordingly. As well it will lifting and moving ice forms.

Must be willing to interact with guests in a very high volume environment. Shift is fast-paced and high-energy. Will be outside - dress warmly. Must be 21 + years of age.

Luminary Loppet: Roaming Information High Priority

Volunteers will be assigned to various ice features to both be a resource to participants with information such as where the nearest porta potties are as well as make sure everyone is safe, i.e. not climbing on features. Please dress warm as you will be outside

Luminary Loppet: Medical

Details

Provide medical assistance on course at the Luminary Loppet on Lake of the Isles as well as at the Luminary Party. Medical volunteers are approved and scheduled by the Loppet Medical Director. A range of medical training and backgrounds are acceptable and helpful including MD, RN, EMT, AT, Residents and ski/bike patrols. Please answer the medical question during volunteer signup.

Distribute Luminary Passes to pre-registered participants and register walk up attendees. This shift will start with an orientation session at the party area volunteer check-in and then walk to assigned locations on Lake of the Isles. A few volunteers will return to the party to complete their shifts after check in activity on the lake slows down.

Luminary Clean Up: Enchanted Forest Take Down/Clean Up (Sunday) High Priority

Details

Help remove lanterns from the trees and pick up any debris left behind after the Luminary. You will be using bamboo poles of various lengths, so manual dexterity and ability to lift a loaded pole from up high and bring it to the ground without dropping the lantern is required. This task will require volunteers to be outside so please dress appropriately. Recommended: light weight liners inside your mittens/gloves will allow for finger dexterity without having to bare your hands.

Take down interior and exterior tables, lights, and banners at the four on-ice registration tents the morning after the Luminary Loppet. Dress for walking around the lake to work on the tents.

Help be part of transforming the lake, leaving it pristine and debris free. Volunteers for this task ski or walk the lakes picking up Luminary candles, trash, or debris along the way.

Help take down the Luminary Hall Feature and get it put away organized and ready for next year! This is a tall feature so comfort climbing ladders is important.
