Set Up Crew High Priority

Help us set the stage for a great race day.
Set-Up Crew volunteers play a key role in preparing everything before runners arrive. Duties include setting up tents, vendor and sponsor booths, DJ and sound equipment, awards area, race-day check-in, decorations, and refreshments. This team may also assist with placing water at designated water stations along the course if needed.
If you enjoy working behind the scenes and want to help create a smooth, welcoming experience for participants, this role is for you.

Race Day Registration Medium Priority

Be the friendly first face runners see.
Race Day Registration volunteers help welcome runners and get the day started on the right foot. Responsibilities include checking in volunteers, assisting participants with race-day registration, distributing bibs and race packets, and answering basic questions—such as where the race start line is located.
A smile, a helpful attitude, and a quick “Good luck!” go a long way in making runners feel prepared and encouraged.

Floater High Priority

Not sure where you fit best but eager to help? The Floater role is perfect for you. Floaters are adaptable volunteers who assist wherever help is needed throughout the morning.
Race day always brings surprises, and this role is essential to keeping everything running smoothly. If you’re flexible, positive, and willing to jump in as needed, we’d love to have you.

During Race

Direction & Cheering Station High Priority

Encourage. Direct. Celebrate.
For many participants, this may be their very first 5K—and your encouragement matters. Direction & Cheering Station volunteers help guide runners along the course while providing energy, motivation, and excitement.
Duties include directing runners, cheering them on, holding signs, and creating a fun, encouraging atmosphere. This role is perfect for small groups, families, or anyone who loves to bring the hype and make runners smile.
If you can clap, cheer, or shout encouragement—you’re qualified!

Water Station High Priority

Hydration with heart.
Water Station volunteers provide more than just water—they offer encouragement and renewed energy. Responsibilities include setting up the station, filling and organizing cups with water and sports drinks, handing beverages to runners, restocking as needed, and cleaning up once the last runner has passed.
Your presence, smile, and encouragement can make all the difference for runners pushing through the course.

Post-Race

Post Race Area

Celebrate the finish and support the recovery.
Post-Race Area volunteers are the first to welcome runners as they cross the finish line. Duties include distributing water and food, offering encouragement, and helping direct participants to post-race activities, awards, or gathering areas.
This is a joyful role focused on celebration, connection, and care after the race.

Tear Down Crew

Details

Help us finish strong.
Once the race concludes, Tear-Down Crew volunteers help pack up and restore the event space. Responsibilities include taking down signs and tents, breaking down the start/finish area, collecting course signage, and picking up trash.
We want to leave Smithfield Recreation and Aquatics Center clean and cared for, and this team helps make that possible.
