Course Marshal 1 High Priority

Walk out to your designated Marshall position. Race begins at 8:00am. Participants will pass your station twice during the race.

Around 8:05 am, the first runners will be coming from the northwest. Direct them to continue straight on the trail into the wooded area (do not veer left onto the driveway). This is about ½ mile into the race.

You will continue to have runners and walkers for about the next half hour. At that point, you will have runners coming back from the southeast on the driveway. Direct them to veer right onto the trail and run back the way they came (do not stay straight on the driveway). This is about 2.5 miles into the race.

You may have runners come back before all the walkers have passed you the first time. Encourage everyone to stay to their right, so they do not interfere with one another.

Another volunteer will notify you when the last participants are finished. You are encouraged to come back to the finish line for water and snacks.

Chiyoda trail at Parks & Rec maintenance driveway

Course Marshal 2 Medium Priority

Walk out to your designated Marshall position. Race begins at 8:00am. Participants will pass your station twice during the race.

Around 8:05 am, the first runners will be coming from the trail to the west. Direct them to turn right onto the driveway (do not continue straight on the trail). This is about ¾ mile into the race.

You will continue to have runners and walkers for about the next half hour. At that point, you will have runners coming back from the southeast on the driveway. Direct them to stay straight on the driveway (do not turn left onto the trail). This is about 2.4 miles into the race.

You may have runners come back before all the walkers have passed you the first time. Encourage everyone to stay to their right, so they do not interfere with one another.

Another volunteer will notify you when the last participants are finished. You are encouraged to come back to the finish line for water and snacks.

Because this location is on the street, we request that volunteers be at least 18 years of age.

Walk out to your designated Marshall position. Race begins at 8:00am. Participants will pass your station twice during the race.

Around 8:05 am, the first runners will be coming from the driveway to the north. Direct them to cross Chiyoda and turn right (more space on the left side of the road). This is about 0.8 mile into the race.

You will continue to have runners and walkers for about the next half hour. At that point, you will have runners coming back from the east on Chiyoda. Direct them to turn right to cross Chiyoda, back onto the Parks and Rec driveway. This is about 2.25 miles into the race.

You may have runners come back before all the walkers have passed you the first time. Encourage everyone to stay to their right on the Parks and Rec driveway so they do not interfere with one another.

Another volunteer will notify you when the last participants are finished. You are encouraged to come back to the finish line for water and snacks.

You must be 18 or older to volunteer for this task.

Walk out to your designated Marshall position. Race begins at 8:00am.

Around 8:15 am, the first runners will be coming from the south on the Phillips Rd. Direct them to stay straight on the the left side of Phillips Rd (do not run in Xerox parking lot) and be aware of any Phillips Rd. traffic. This is about 1.5 miles into the race.

There should not be any Xerox parking lot traffic, but if there is hold the cars until participants have safely passed. You may halt walkers if necessary to let cars pass, but please do not halt runners.

Another volunteer will notify you when the last participants are finished. You are encouraged to come back to the finish line for water and snacks.

Walk out to your designated Marshall position (see image below). Race begins at 8:00am.

Around 8:15 am, the first runners will be coming from the south on the Phillips Rd. Direct them to carefully turn left onto Chiyoda (the shoulder gets tight - they should run on the grass) and stay on the left side of the road. This is about 2 miles into the race.

Another volunteer will notify you when the last participants are finished. You are encouraged to come back to the finish line for water and snacks.

Water Stop - En Route High Priority

You must be 10 or older to volunteer for this task.

Items provided: Table, water jugs, cups, plastic garbage bags
Because this location is near the street, we request that official volunteers be at least 10 years of age.

Walk out to the En Route Water Stop. Prior to race start, you can begin to fill the provided cups with water.

The race begins at 8:00am, and participants will be coming from the west, likely around 8:10am. Expect the biggest rush of runners between 8:20-8:50am. As participants pass you, hand water to them and instruct them to turn left (north) and run ON THE SIDEWALK up Phillips Rd.

As the last walkers pass the water stop, please pick up all the discarded cups and clean up the area. A Malahosky family member will drive by with their truck to pick up the equipment and you. You are encouraged to come back to the finish line for water and snacks.

Water Stop - Finish Line Medium Priority

The race begins at 8:00am - as participants leave, set up the tables with the water bottles, bananas, and snacks near the finish line. As participants return, invite them to partake of any of the offerings. Please try to keep the area as clean as possible. Direct anyone asking about Gear Check Pickup to the table under the tent.

Parking Assist High Priority

You must be 18 or older to volunteer for this task.

Details

Because this location is on the street, we request that official volunteers be at least 18 years of age.

Walk out to the Xerox parking lot across Chiyoda from the Parks and Rec building.

From 7:00am until 8:00am, direct any cars associated with the race into the Xerox parking lot. If a car says they are not associated with the race, they are allowed to park in the Parks and Rec lot - please alert them that a race is going on (starting at 8:00am) and if they plan to leave before 10:00am they should be cautious of the runners/walkers.

Around 8:15am, you might begin to see runners coming from the east on Chiyoda. Please direct them to stay on their left (the southern side of Chiyoda) until they reach Course Marshal 3, who will then direct them across the street.

Another volunteer will notify you when the last participants are finished. You are encouraged to come back to the finish line for water and snacks.

Note: if you would rather park in the Xerox parking lot rather than the volunteer lot, you are more than welcome to do so.

Packet Pickup @ Race High Priority

Details

Participants who pre-registered online will be able to pick up their race packet the morning of the race. The packets will be in a box in chronological order of bib number. You will have a updated spreadsheet with the participants organized by last name (we will cross out the folks who picked up their packets either on Thursday or Friday).

When participants arrive, ask for their last name. Give them the appropriate packet that matches their assigned bib number. If they had requested an additional t-shirt (as noted on the spreadsheet), please collect $15 per extra t-shirt. Once they have collected their packet, cross off their name with a yellow highlighter.

If they ask you about buying another t-shirt, but had not previously requested one, please ask them to contact me at kappyskampaign@gmail.com after the race to see if there are shirts left over.

If they offer an additional donation, please have them sign their name/organization, contact information, and amount on the “Additional Donation” spreadsheet. Contact information can be whatever method they prefer to be contacted (email address, physical address, phone number, etc.)

Checks should be made out to Kappy’s Kampaign.

A blue highlighter is supplied as well, in case you need to make a special note of something.

Gear Check - Dropoff Medium Priority

Details

Participants will be able to leave small personal items at Gear Check, such as car keys and warm-up clothing. Each participant was provided a gallon-size ziplock bag with their bib number written on it when they picked up their race packet.

For security reasons, you must accept only this bag, and the bag must be fully zipped.

When they drop off their bag, verify that the bag number matches their bib number. Also verify with the participant that they left nothing of value in their gear check, because we cannot assume any responsibility for these items. Remind them to bring their bib with them when they pick up their bag, as this is the only way it will be released to them.

You will be provided with a box to place the checked bags in. To make life easier for our Pickup volunteers, please put the bags in the box in numeric order.

Gear Check will close when the race begins at or around 8:00am. It is up to your discretion if you will still accept gear after the race begins. Please remain at the Gear Check table with the items until the Gear Check - Pickup volunteer(s) come to relieve you at 9:00am.

Gear Check - Pickup Medium Priority

When they come to pick up their bag, ask to see their bib and find the matching bag in the gear check box (will be in mostly numeric order). Please do not release a bag to someone unless they have the right bib with them.

Gear Check Pickup closes at 10:00am. Please remain at the table until either Lauren or Helen Malahosky comes to relieve you around that time. They will take any unclaimed gear to the Parks and Rec lost and found.

Registration @ Race Medium Priority

Details

Arrive: 7:00 am
Expected Finish: 8:00am

People will be able to register for the race the morning of from 7:15am until the race begins at 8:00am. You will be provided with paper registration forms for these participants to fill out. Please make sure they completely fill out the paper registration forms and sign the waiver at the bottom. Collect $25 for the registration fee.

A sheet is provided to assign them a bib number - be sure to give them the corresponding packet. You will have several of these unassigned packets ready to hand out, but should you run out and need more help please call either Helen or Lauren.

We only have bibs for 125 participants. If we run out of bibs, they can still participate but we will not be able to time them.

If they ask you about buying another t-shirt, but had not previously requested one, please ask them to contact me at kappyskampaign@gmail.com after the race to see if there are shirts left over.
