Portland Bridge Swim Volunteer Registration

OMSI Emergency Coordination (7 AM - 11 AM) High Priority

Details

7:00 AM: Please pick up your radio and t-shirt at the race start.

7:30 AM: Please inflate the buoy with the pump supplied (it plugs into your car, make sure it’s running!) and tie it to the end of the pier (see map).

8:00 AM-11:00: Please introduce you to the MetroWest ambulance team in the OMSI parking lot (see map). You will monitor our radio communications, from your car or closer to the OMSI pier.

NOTE: You will have to pay for parking at OMSI. Please save your receipt and we will reimburse you.

11:00: When the ambulance crew departs for Cathedral Park, please recover the buoy, pack it up and head to the race finish site at the Cathedral Park boat ramp (we moved it this year). Parking at the boat ramp is $5; you can park up on N. Baltimore Ave. or get a receipt and we’ll reimburse you. We need you to return the gear and if you can stick around to help out/sabotage our work, that would be awesome.

Power Boater (all day) High Priority

Details

Power boaters have their own motorized boats. Boaters will need to arrive at the Sellwood Riverfront Park dock by 6:30 AM to grab equipment and get set up. Boaters will need to transport 2 rescuers on their boat for the duration of the race. All power boaters will receive a gas disbursement after the race.

Jet Ski Driver (all day) High Priority

Jet Ski drivers have their own jet ski.

Location

Jet Ski drivers will need to arrive at Sellwood Riverfront Park by 6:30 AM to pick up equipment and get setup.

Lifeguard/Rescuer (all day) High Priority

At least 18 more volunteers needed.

Details

We need 2 lifeguards/rescuers on each power boat for the duration of the event. If there's an emergency, the 2 rescuers will work together to extricate the person from the water onto the power boat. Certified lifeguards and strong swimmers with experience in open water swimmer would be ideal for this role.
