Course Marshal

At key intersections on course, direct runners using course marshal flags. Course marshals will wear WTAC-provided vests and use yellow flags.

Location

To be assigned by Race Director. Individual assignments given out at volunteer orientation at finish line (198 Bowling Lane) 9:15am. Please allow time to arrive and park before then.

Setup flags, directional arrow signs, and water stop supplies. Course marking maps and supplies to be provided. NOTE: Friday afternoon hours are flexible anytime during time slot; the entire time slot is not needed or expected. Expect a 1.5 -2.5 hour commitment, depending upon number of volunteers.

Course Breakdown

Details

Pick up flags, directional arrow signs, and water stop supplies. Return supplies to finish line or dirt road where trail intersects. The more volunteers we get, the quicker the process goes.

Packet Pickup

Check in runners using computer software. Provide race packets (bib, shirt, etc) to race participants.

Water Stop

Details

Setup up water stop, including tables, trash can, and filling cups halfway with water.
Hand cups to approaching runners. Clean up roadway of cups before leaving.

On blue trail, one mile walk from start/finish. Exact location and map to be provided.

Parking marshal: Main Lot

Details

Using provided vests and flags, direct drivers into parking spots. When lot is full, instruct incoming cars to park at overflow lot at 460 Bradford Road and call overflow lot marshal to post a sign indicating same at front side of church.

Using provided vests and flags, direct drivers. One volunteer in parking lot directing runners onto walking trail to church; one volunteer outside church explaining bathrooms inside front door and pointing runners down Bowling Lane to race start.

Trail Race Photographer

Details

Capture images of runners along the course. Volunteer will need the ability to position themselves strategically along the trail while staying mindful of runners’ paths.

Location

Along the course, preferably at scenic or interesting locations (ex: at Big Hill summit or Polly Coon Bridge overlooking Pawcatuck River).
