• Same start line for both marathon and half marathon
• Hold up pace signage to stage runners (volunteers experienced in marathons would be helpful)
• Assist with disassembling start line, moving and reassembling as finish line
• Remove any discarded clothing from the area

Finish Line Half Marathon Medals

Details

• Station at end of finish line chute and watch for Half Marathon finishers
• Be aware of Marathon runners and be careful not to interfere as they will continue alongside, not through, for a second loop
• Thank each runner for participating and direct them to replenishment
• Be aware of any signs of runner exhaustion and alert race staff if necessary
• Distribute awards as directed by race director

Time listed is not total time volunteering. Check-in times will vary depending on your assigned location on the route.

• Watch for runners (Runner support is encouraged)
• Make sure water is accessible to runners
• Make sure water and cup supplies are plentiful. Contact course directors as supply gets low
• Make sure trash is picked up and the area stays free of debris that could cause a trip hazard (Trash boxes will be provided)
• Course directors will provide detailed instructions and notification of final runner(s)
• Station must be manned until confirmation of final runner(s) has been given by course directors

Road Guards

Time listed is not total time volunteering. Check-in times will vary depending on your assigned location on the route.

IMPORTANT NOTE: The marathon is a Boston Marathon Qualifier, therefore runners must have as clear a route as possible to maintain goal pace. Do not pause or stop runners unless it's absolutely necessary.

• Watch for runners (Runner support is encouraged)
• Carefully stop any cars at the intersection to allow runners access to the route
• Direct runners in correct direction, street, or turn on the route to ensure they stay on course
• Make sure to wear safety vest provided, use orange flag to assist with traffic control and be visible to all runners and traffic
• Do not leave the area, relief volunteers will bring water and cover for bathroom breaks
• Course directors will provide detailed instructions and notification of final runner(s)
• Traffic control officers will be at heavily traveled intersections as an added safety measure in addition to road guards, not as replacements

• Assist with loading chairs, tables, boxes, picking up signs along race route etc.
• Make sure Farmer’s Market area is clean and free of race trash and signage
• Takedown of finish line and finish chute signage
• Disperse of unwanted food or drinks
• Any clean-up required to shut down the race
