RACE DAY

Start/Finish Line High Priority

November 2, 2024

Details

Start/Finish Line volunteers will help organize runners at the start of race, help remove chips from shoes after the race, and assist the chip timers with running results back to pavilion, and other duties as needed.

Location

You will walk from the park pavilion to the Start/Finish Line, just off park road towards Frontcountry trailhead parking lot.

Medal Distribution High Priority

November 2, 2024

Details

Duties include unboxing and organizing of finishers medals to distribute as runners cross the finish line. Every runner with a bib that crosses the finish line will receive a medal.

Location

You will walk from the park pavilion to the Start/Finish Line, just off park road towards Frontcountry trailhead parking lot.

8K Water Station High Priority

Details

Duties include arriving early to get water station setup, and setup for runners, as well as tearing down the area and cleaning up after the last runner has past. We have generally have a member of Trail Patrol either bike or hike behind the last runners and they let water stations know when they can tear down. We suggest that runners please carry their bottles and fill up at stations instead of using cups. We promote ourselves as a cupless race, however we will have a small supply of cups available for those in need.

Location

Approximately half way on the 8K course. You may be able to drive to this location, if not we will get you to and from the location.

15K Water Station

Details

Post-Race Food/Drinks Assistants High Priority

November 2, 2024

Details

Setup and management of food and drinks for the post-race celebration, as well as keeping the area clean. We will have tacos and fruit to distribute as well as jugs of water and electrolytes, and other snacks. We don't like to put everything out at once so that our slower runners are sure to get post-race refreshments too, so you'll manage the distribution.

Parking Marshals - Folks Middle School

November 2, 2024

Details

Direct cars to parking spots at Folks Middle School and will also help get runners to the bus wait line. We will have 2 buses shuttling to and from GCSNA until the race starts.

Location

You will be able to drive to this location. Volunteer Coordinator will give you more informatoin closer to race day.

Parking Marshals - GCSNA

Details

While runners are asked to park at Folks Middle School, those with Texas State Park Passes or whom pay to enter are allowed entry, as well as our volunteers and sponsors. We will have a few parking spots coned off at pavilion for our sponsors, as they will be delivering goods. You will be responsible for directing any parking traffic in the parks various lots, and also direct runners getting off of the buses to the pavilion area as they will need to pick up their timing chips there before the race.

15K Course Marshals High Priority

Details

Directing runners in the proper direction on the backcountry trails. You will be given a specific location that you can hike too, depending on where you are placed--or we may be able to drive you up to location or close to.

Course Marshal - Finish Line Low Priority

November 2, 2024

Details

Near the finish just before runners cross the pad, the 8K and 15K courses merge together before turning to the finish. It's a tricky footing area--you'd be responsible for directing runner to the finish line at that merge.

Floater Medium Priority

Details

Assist Race Director and/or Volunteer Coordinator as needed filling positions that were left unfilled or vacated and various other tasks.

8K Sweep High Priority

You must be 21-70 years old to volunteer for this task.

Responsible for following the last runner/walker on the 8K course and communicating with Incident Command and Race Director with any issues with course or runners. You'll also alert water stations and course marshals that the last runner has past and they may break down their posts. This position can be mountain biked or hiked and you must carry a radio with you that we will provide.

Course Teardown High Priority

November 2, 2024

Details

Help the Race Directors and Volunteers collect signs and clean up the trails. You will follow the Course SWEEP and pick up signs on the course, dropping them at specific locations to be retrieved by Staff. You will need to carry water and your phone with you.

Race Day Registration/PacketPickUp/Chip Distribution High Priority

November 2, 2024

Details

You will assist with runners registering for the race if it is not sold out, chip distributions based on the runners bib numbers, and packet pick up for those who are already registered.
