Course Flaggers/Saturday (20 points per hour) High Priority

You must be 16 or older to volunteer for this task.

September 6, 2025

Details

Volunteers are responsible for making sure runners are kept safe and don’t have to stop for any traffic. They stop any vehicles that would impede a runner along the course by waving their flag. Course flaggers will keep the vehicle stopped until there is a gap in the runners large enough to let the vehicle move forward. They keep the course safe until the “sweeper” pacer passes their assigned station.

Be aware that the bend in the road is very tight and vehicles that are towing trailers have to use the whole road in order to make the turn. As a result, there are no orange cones around the turn. To keep runners safe, volunteers need to stand on either side of the turn, within sight of each other, and stop traffic while runners are making the turn. Only allow vehicles to turn when there are gaps in the runners and it is safe for vehicles to proceed. Vehicles will mostly be coming up the canyon. However, vehicles coming down the canyon will use the same lane as those coming up the canyon. Volunteers need to watch each other and coordinate the flow of traffic both ways. Volunteers should also encourage runners to stay as far right as possible.

Volunteers will then head to the finish line area to assist with last minute finish line set up including: putting up tents, unwrapping finisher medals, and placing medals on the designated table. Some volunteers may also be asked to help at the bag drop area, and food prep, etc.
