Enter the trailhead (you will see the course markers and follow the course markers to the left after you enter the trail - the same way the runners will be going), pick a spot in the pines just after you get in the trail that looks like it will be good for pics. When you are pretty sure there are no more runners you can go back to the start of the trail and go in again to your right this time - which is where runners will be exiting the trail - so be careful to not get in their way - again walk in a little ways and find a good spot to take pics. When you are pretty sure everyone is out of there you can head over to Pleasantview, the runners will run around Polczinski Cr. which is a nice residential area that may be a good spot to catch many of the 10k and 1/2 marathoners.

The main purpose of this job is to capture pictures of as many volunteers as possible. You will also man an intersection on the west side half marathon route at Maple and Sheridan where you will have 2 jobs: taking pictures of runners as they approach your intersection and yelling to them to turn onto Sheridan where they will have to run on road construction.

You need to be to the intersection of Maple and Sheridan by 9:00 and will probably be there until 10:30. You will know when you can leave that station when the race crew lets you know the last half marathoner has past. Prior to that assignment, get pictures of volunteers at Panther Stadium, on the 5K route, 10k route and half marathon route. There will be volunteers inside of the Fitness trail on the west side so try to get to them if you can. They will be there from 7:45-8:30.

While at Maple and Sheridan intersection, runners will be approaching you after running up the longest hill on the course on Maple. This is a great place to get pictures of runners! Once you get their picture yell to them to turn to their left onto Sheridan and that there is a water station up ahead and they need to run on the unpaved road.

After the race, please edit pictures by deleting any blurry ones, ones with bad lighting, or duplicates of the same picture. It is ok to have 2 similar pictures of a runner but any more is excessive. Once you are finished editing, please upload remaining pictures to this folder on the Run for the Trails FB site: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?vanity=runforthetrails&set=a.742492256480758

Location

Start at Panther Stadium but follow the 5K, 10K and half marathon routes to get pictures of all volunteers working water stations and intersections before moving to your intersection at Maple Sheridan.

Follow Half Marathon last place runner until sweeper (course pick-up) truck/trailer catches up to you. You will be driving quite slow, so have your hazards on an pull over to let people pass you. There are two trails that particpants go on, the fitness trail (Ski Tow Rd. entrance) wait there until the runner you were following comes back out. There is another trail on the west side - the runner will enter on Oakland Ave. by some yellow barricades. They will come out at the West Side Beach parking lot. Wait for your runner in the West Side Beach parking lot. Please keep a good distance away from this runner. Just because you are following them you don't want to be on their tail - that would be very annoying and make them feel bad likely. Keep a good block behind them (as long as you can see them you are good). *Please see Nan after you check in with the volunteer coordinator so that we can go over the route and how to determine who is your last runner. Text the cleanup crew leader with periodic updates regarding the location of the last runner. Cleanup crew leader is Will Kline at 920-676-3197

See race route for half marathon here: https://www.plotaroute.com/route/1261579?units=km

You will also receive a printout of this route in your volunteer materials.

Lastly, there is a possibility you will need to give an injured runner a ride. Please have masks available for yourself and runner.
