Details

Bring your kayak or paddle board. You'll be given an area on the course to sit and watch the racers. A swimmer is allowed to hang on to your kayak to rest. Kayakers are often the first responder to an athlete in need of assistance. If an athlete is in need of further assistance or rescue, the kayaker will signal for lifeguards and the Dive unit boats along the course.The needs and requirements for each swimmer and kayaker will vary. Communication is key.

Details

Lifeguard is a paid position. Waterfront lifeguards must practice preventative lifeguarding, keep themselves physically fit and mentally aware, maintain and operate safety equipment, administer first-aid as required, and render aid necessary to rescue swimmers. The Dive/ Rescue team will be on the course to help. Some tasks lifeguards typically handle are supervising swimmers, spotting hazards and preventing accidents, giving advice on water safety, controlling unruly behavior, water rescue, first aid including CPR.

Details

The boats will be stationed at two spots along the swim. One is early in the 2.4 mile swim. Swimmers will be able to stand in the water by the boat, access water and rest as needed. The other boat will be at the 1/2 way point of the 2.4 mile swim. This is also the start of the 1.2 mile swim. The job is to make sure swimmers can get what they need, water, nutrition and rest will be available here.

Details

As swimmers arrive they will come to the shelter to pick up their timing chip and any other materials needed for the swim. Volunteers will have a station and a list of participants. The list will tell you what they need. After all swimmers head to the start set up post race nutrition in the shelter at the designated area. Volunteers from 7:30 on make sure food and beverages are stocked up and available to all racers (not spectators unfortunately).

Finisher medals & timing chip remover High Priority

Details

Stand in the finish area. Make sure all swim finishers get a medal. Hand the finisher a medal. These people will also be responsible for collecting the timing chips. Walk with them upstairs if they need help. Ask how they are feeling and if they are ok to climb the stairs. If they are not ready just help them be out of the way of other folks finishing the race. Walk with them if they, or you feel they may need assistance.

Details

Before the race announce where and when people should be places, shout outs to sponsors information about participants and volunteers. Announce for the pre race safety meeting before the start. During the race maybe talk about water/ weather conditions and other info for spectators. As swimmers finish announce names and where they are from if we can get that info to you.

Details

Have racers put gear bags in vehicle, bring them to Swarthout Park and setbtHem in the designated area. They will give you their race number and you give them their gear bag.
