Description

UPDATED 10-Jun-2021

Sponsors, Racers and Supporters -

We are just 2 days away from the Runway 5K/10K @ MWH event, June 12th at the Grant County International Airport.  Registration has officially closed for the race, and the Runway organizers are busy putting race packets together and finalizing the logistics for the event.  We are very fortunate to be holding this event, even with the COVID-19 constraints. A few key items for consideration:

  • Race will be held on June 12, 2021 (Saturday)
  • Race will start at 0730 with the 10K participants, followed by the 5K participants starting at 0740
  • Race will be capped at 400 participants as part of the Washington State Phase 3 proclamation
  • Race swag registration deadline is 21-May-2021 (this includes Tee Shirt and Medals)...must be registered by this date to get the swag!
  • Registration is now officially closed
  • **REVISION** PACKET PICKUP
    • Location: 7810 Andrews St NE, Moses Lake, WA 98837
    • Friday, June 11, 2021 from 2-5 PM
    • Saturday, June 12, 2021 from 6-7AM (hardstop)
  • COVID-19 considerations are still applicable...social distance pre-race, at the starting line, during the race, and post-race
  • It is imperative that we clear the airfield as soon as possible so the airport can be returned to operations.  Our goal is to have the airport returned to operations by 1100 at the very latest.

WE GOT THIS! YOU GOT THIS! LET'S DO THIS!

Thanks

Put on your Aviators and blast some “Highway to the Danger Zone”, get ready to take off on one of the most unique running race venues in the world.
Have you ever wanted to run down an airport runway? How about one of the longest in the world? Well, the Grant County International Airport in Moses Lake, Washington will be your chance to run the 13,503 foot runway for a 5K run/walk and 10K race. This is a unique opportunity to race on the same tarmac that thousands of aircraft land and take off from each year! Want a chance to PR your 5K and 10K, this is your course! Bring your co-pilots and crew for what will be an amazing day of racing in the Inland Northwest!

This will be an officially timed event, with top male and female awards for 5K and 10K events, and best overall average team finishers with a minimum of 3 team members. Also, this is a family-friendly race, where walkers and strollers are offered the same opportunity on the 5K course. With over 350 Visual Flight Rules (VFR) days a year, weather should be excellent and comfortable. Temperatures at race start should be in the mid-50s for the early June race.

The race will benefit the Moses Lake Cross Country Team booster club, creating unique opportunities and development of local high school runners to compete at the local, state and national levels.

Runway 10K @ MWH Map

The 10K course will give you the greatest exposure to the Grant County International Airport.  The race start and finish is the same for the 10K and 5K distances, but the courses are different.   The 10K will start in front of the Port of Moses Lake terminal, where racers will head West following the taxiways to Runway 4.  Racers will make a right onto Runway 4 at the 1KM mark.  As racers approach the 2.5KM mark, they will turn left onto Runway 32R heading Northwest.  Runners will each the end of 32R and then turn around heading the opposite way now (known as Runway 14L).  Racers will then have just over a 4KM straight shot down one of the longest runways in the world.  As they approach the Southeast end of 14L, racers will make a right onto the taxiway, where they will sprint the final 1KM to the finish in record time!!!

T-Shirts!

The race shirt design represents the history of the Grant County International Airport.  The airport was an air base from 1942 thru 1966, and was known as the Larson Air Force Base.  The air base was then converted to the Grant County International Airport, and the Port of Moses Lake was official started with Colonel Owen becoming the Port's first Director.  Since then, the Port has served as a critical resource for:

  • Civil aviation
  • Aerospace development, testing and certification
  • Continued training field for US military operations
  • Airline training
  • Aircraft maintenance, repair and overhaul services

The shirt represents the aerial map of the airport, and the geographic orientation of the runways.  MWH is the airport code for Grant County International Airport.
