The 5K for the Fallen - Orting is a family friendly event who's mission is to support the families of law enforcement officers who have been lost in the line of service. We believe that law enforcement officers provide a critical service to our community and we want to honor them with this special event. A percentage of every registration will go to the Fallen Officer Fund as well as 100% of all sponsorship monies raised. Whether competitive runner, casual jogger/runner, bring the family for a fun-filled morning in downtown Orting.

This annual event will coincide with National Police Week, the 5K for the Fallen team will choose charities each year that will benefit from a portion of race registration proceeds, as well as receive 100% of the sponsorship funds. The receiving non-profits and charitable organizations are carefully considered and must be organizations striving to support Officer Down situations. The following charities have been chosen for 2018:
65% of donated funds will benefit the Deputy Daniel McCartney Legacy Fund. Pierce County Deputy Daniel McCartney was killed in the line of duty near Frederickson, WA on January 7, 2018 while responding to a home invasion situation. His widow is now raising their three young sons alone.
25% of donated funds will benefit Seattle Police Pipes and Drums. This non-profit organization participates in services honoring fallen officers across our state. They are supportive of families throughout the memorial planning process and can also be found participating in community events like the Seattle St. Patrick’s Day parade. They are a key part of the formality and tradition of each memorial service they attend.
10% of donated funds will benefit the WA State FOP (Fraternal Order of Police). This is another non-profit that supports families of fallen officers with help after the incident. They provide counseling and chaplain services and contribute to the WA State Police Officers Memorial found in Olympia. They also support several different organizations that offer support to Officer’s injured and killed in the line of duty.
