 “Punching Out” Parkinson’s 5K Walk

Sunday, July 30th, 2017 10:30 Am----- Olympic Discovery Trail- Morse Creek

This out-and-back course runs along the beautiful and scenic Olympic Discovery Trail, starting at the Morse Creek Trailhead off Strait View Drive, in Port Angeles, Washington. April is Parkinson's Awareness month. In view of this, Sequim Gym is preparing this walk " Punching Out Parkinson's.

This event has been put together for the benefits to help those with Parkinson's in our community have more resources, better awareness and to support our local Washington State Northwest Parkinson's Foundation: https://nwpf.org/

This organization, like many other through out the country, help support those with Parkinson's through education, research and financial assistance for programs  and many other services. In addition to supporting our State Level program, the Sequim Gym is looking to promote our program, only one on the North Olympic Peninsula designed specifically for those suffering from PD.

Our classes at Sequim Gym provide exercises for people who are at various levels of ability. Exercises can be done while sitting or standing, on mats, against the wall and walking. The most significant exercise, however, is No-Contact Boxing, when everyone dons boxing gloves and hits punching bags and speed balls. We started offering those classes in February 2016. Since then, our “boxers” have improved in their agility, stability and enjoyment of life.

There is nothing quite like hitting a punching bag against the frustration of Parkinson’s!

Sequim Gym is affiliated with Rock Steady Boxing (rocksteadyboxing.org) in Indianapolis, IN. They were founded in 2006 and now have affiliates all over the US and even in Europe.  Kevin Pedrey, the owner of Sequim Gym (Sequimgym.com,) has been a certified RSB boxing teacher since 2016.
