Sakura is Japanese for cherry blossom trees!
Celebrated for centuries in Japan, sakura is a symbol of renewed life, and when gifted, a symbol of friendship.
In fact, the variety you're about to see are called yoshino cherry trees and were gifted to Seattle by Japan in the early 1900's! These trees are THAT old and so so so STUNNING in peak bloom. They are arguably one of the most beautiful displays of cherry blossoms in the nation!
In Japan, cherry blossom viewing is called Hanami!
Cherry blossom viewing parties involve sitting under the tree's blooms eating, drinking, visiting with friends and loved ones. And at night, the viewing party doesn't stop with lights hung up on the trees branches to illuminate the night sky and cherry blossoms.
